I grew up in a tiny little town in western NY, it's beautiful there and I miss it. I joined the military at 17 to get out of the small town. Served two years in the army, mostly in Texas, then I got accepted to a federal service academy. I went there for 4 years, sailed to Africa, Europe, and the Caribbean, graduated in 2007 with a Bachelors of Science, and now I'm a tugboat pilot. I drive a tugboat on the Mississippi River and its tributaries. I bought a house near Texas City though. So when I'm off, this is where I live :-)

I'm in the navy reserves now, but I only have to go to training once a year. I'm not some Rambo-I-love-the-military type... I just did it because they paid for all of my college. I'm a pretty regular guy :-) and there is basically no chance of me getting called up for active duty.

I'm new around here. Evidently a lot of guys say that, but it's true for me. I moved here in May 2008, and I don't really know anyone. I have a few friends from up north who moved to the area as well and I hang out with them sometimes, but they don't really know anyone around here either so it's a little awkward... and it's so hard to meet new people!

I don't plan on doing the towboating thing forever. 2 more years and I'm done. Then I plan to get a Masters in Education and become a high school science teacher and soccer coach. I know this is Texas and it's all about football, but we didn't have football where I grew up so soccer was the big sport. And I think I'd make a good coach!

I mostly listen to country music and alternative. On the boat I listen to Dr. Laura on the XM radio from 2-5pm. I love Dr. Laura!
