I study psychology at GVSU. I am currently working on three different research projects, which are both entertaining and exasperating. I love to read, write, discuss, joke. I am not much for partying, so if you are..we probably won't get along. I am not, however, a dullard; I like to have fun and be silly. I play some guitar, but I will confess that I do not have any musical talent. I like Law and Order to free my mind from the burdens of almost perpetual reflection. I will also confess that I like to cuddle. It may sound lame, but nothing is more beautiful than the warm feeling that one can derive from close connection with another.


Nature is an important part of my life. Trees, stars, rivers, grass, flowers, birds, even spiders, all are exquisite reminders of the beauty of the natural world. Plus, it is just there. It does not care about me; it just does what it does in perfect indifference. I wish I could make myself enjoy snow, but I haven't achieved that yet. On the other hand, I do enjoy the sky during winter nights.

When I finish undergrad, I am getting out of this state and moving somewhere warm. Until then, I will just tolerate the snow. Winter is for watching movies. Summer is for enjoying the outdoors.

Finally, I am full of contradictions. I am both a bohemian and a puritan; a romantic and a classicist; a moralist and an immoralist. Sometimes these contradictions batter my brain; sometimes I salubriously synthesize them. They certainly cause distress, but they make me more interesting (or at least, that is what I have been told).

I suspect that nothing I write here can compare to the nuances of face to face conversation; that is, I believe that we are quite unable to detect our own subtle propensities and that they only rise to the surface when engaged by another. It is perhaps unfortunate, but the only way to truly get to know me is to meet me. Perhaps, on the other hand, that is not unfortunate; for, we evolved for face to face contact, not instant messages. Let us take advantage of the internet, but let us remember that it is a means to an end, not an end in itself.

No art is more powerful than film.

Politics is the study of "evil." There is no such thing as a moral government. There is no such thing as a moral politician.

Kissing is underrated. Really.

E.T. is ****ing fantastic. So is Karate Kid.

Tradition may be the illusion of permanence, but illusions are often enchanting and useful.

Do not lift the painted veil.

If you do not have contradictory thoughts, you are not thinking.

If you have not hated somebody, you are probably not human.

If you are not jealous, you are not in love.

I believe that the life of the intellect, combined with a healthy appreciation of aesthetics, is the best life. (I am not opposed, however, to believing that MY belief is a result of certain quirks about me. If I were, for example, a brilliant athlete, I would probably tell you that athletics were more important than intellect.)

I listen to the BBC

I watch the tigers and analyze pitches

I know copious amounts about strange pop-culture phenomena

I watch classic movies like Nosferatu and Casablanca

I am almost always confused or befuddled

I am an avid fan of Ad busters and other consumer conscious people/organizations

I have no clue what my purpose is or what life is about

Yet I have definite morals and ideals

Who knows, maybe someday I will "feel at home"

Which is my ultimate desideratum. If you know what I mean, we are probably kindred spirits.

Depends upon the person. There are, of course, sundry options. I myself am prone to believe that a good conversation should be the kindling that starts the fire of any romance. On the other hand, sometimes distraction is necessary. Movies are good for that. I prefer the solitude of my apartment. If the two of us cannot have entertainment just talking, we probably cannot have a relationship...
