About Me
Hello there!
I’m a widely-traveled Berkeley native who always seems to end up back home (no matter how many times I say I'm leaving for good). Figuring out what to do with my life has always been difficult. I am astounded at people who are so decisive as to know, and act upon, with seemingly little thought, their goals and plans. Everything is so liquid, so changeable, that I almost don't see any point in fighting the flow. Of course, that doesn't mean I don't have goals and plans. I just understand that things may not turn out how I wanted them to. And that's okay.
I believe in adventure, redemption, loyalty, brotherhood (as well as sisterhood,) and love. These things can change a person’s life when applied correctly. Everything else can be dealt with an air of style and dignity, and a certain ability to relax. Why get worked up? Why not think about it and come up with a real answer? Of course, some circumstances require quick action, but when they don't, we should take it easy.
So, favorite things. Brown paper packages tied up in string are definitely one of them. Probably my 3 favorite all time movies are Top Secret, Harvey and Vertigo. There isn't anything quite like James Stewart under Hitchcock's direction. I have far to much favorite music to list, but here's a short one: Old Crow Medicine Show, The Devil Makes Three, Primus, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Silly Wizard, dubstep in general, CCR, NWA, Ani DiFranco, Neko Case, Mika, Ananda Shankar, Sound Tribe Sector 9, The Mountain Goats, Judas motherfawkin' Priest, and the Grateful Dead. I dearly love quite a few authors, but the ones that changed my perspective and therefore hold a higher position would be Rudyard Kipling, Robert Rankin, Luis Bunuel, Irving Welsh and Banjo Patterson. Okay, so a couple of those are poets, but lets not split hairs here. Favorite artists include Robert Bechtle, Claude Monet, Rene Magritte, Man Ray and Max Ernst.
I've noticed some people define themselves by what they are not, and I think that is counter productive. We should define ourselves by what we are, as this empowers us to be ourselves. I am many things. Most people are. Are we so easily defined though?
This is no place for life stories. What would be the point? It would ruin the learning, the sharing that could take place between us. The connection we might make. Maybe you should find out…
Not everyone takes the same path. I’d like to think my path has been as unique as possible. I’ve been lucky enough to see more of the world than many people ever get to. It would be nice to have someone to go see the rest of it with. Someone with an adventurous spirit. Someone with ambition. Someone who can be soft as well as spikey. Someone who is freaking hilarious, a veritable riot. Maybe I want too much. Maybe I am not specific enough. Maybe we should find out…
First Date
Finding a spot to relax and chat. I'm easily amused, so I'd probably be happy to do whatever, if you were enthusiastic about it. I have a thing for art museums, if you're interested. The things you can learn about a person by seeing what art they are mesmerized by are personal and wonderful. Just no karaoke. Ever. (Again.)(But that's another story.)
