I consider myself pretty well-rounded with many different interests. Like most guys, I am quite content having a few beers while watching sports -- whether it's on my couch, at a bar, or at the game. However, I also thoroughly enjoy the arts and doing cultural activities (museums, plays, Broadway shows, concerts, literature, etc.). I think I strike a pretty good balance in my life -- I like being active (playing sports, hiking, working out), but am just as content by spending a lazy day on my couch watching guilty TV pleasures and/or reading. I am also a big fan of the beach. I did stand-up comedy professionally for several years (mostly in New York) and feel very comfortable talking with people. Humor is integral to my life. I need a partner who "gets it." Also, although I am by no means a vegetarian (far from it actually) I am a big proponent of animals rights. I've always had pets -- animals are an integral part of my life and I feel they should be treated as humanely as possible.

It's crucial to be able to talk and get to know one another. As cliche as this sounds, I think meeting for drinks or maybe dinner is the best bet for a first date. Keep it casual and light but make a concerted effort to learn about the person across from you to see if you're a good match.
