I am attracted to good food, good women, sunsets, firelight, and the sound that the rain makes. A good woman, for me is one who is tough, and who personifies heroic values like courage, beauty, the ability to perform athletics well, and the ability to use words to achieve practical ends. I am close to my friends and try to honor my family, and the example of my ancestors.

I am not a vegetarian, and especially like to eat things that I hunted, caught or gathered myself. I learned the skills to do this from my mother, as they have been passed on for many generations in this land. Perhaps as a consequence, I know where I am in the food chain, and I also have a profound respect my other Mother, with whom I am on good terms.

I am not a member of any health club, but I chop much wood. I ran a mile in 4'40" last time I checked. I like pullups off the edge of the house, and the day doesn't start 'til they are done (and the coffee's made). If there's no work, I'm in the lineup at County Line or Dume by daybreak. My favorite writers are Faulkner, Borges, Garcia Marquez, Pessoa, and Thucydides, but also Herodotus. My favorite book is the Odyssey because, like the hero, I am a survivor and sailor, and have many wiles. And words... although I will win a physical combat, I am much more gratified by settling a dispute with words.

I am fluent in Spanish, Portuguese, German, French, allowing adaptation in foreign lands. I spend much time in El Salvador, for work and for travel. There is much poverty, but the people are real and make me feel like family. I don't watch the TV much, and see only idiocy in the values promoted by Hollywood. I am moved by theater, but am especially moved by live music or music that sounds live, such as that performed by Townes Van Zandt, Lightnin' Hopkins, Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams, vallenato, Mart'nalia, Edmundo Rivero.

Hmmm.. Not big on the dating thing... maybe watch the waves, or build a fire, or catch and eat a fish.
