About Me

Learning to accept and make changes in my life feels like my mantra right now.

Did you ever have that strange feeling with the words describing your changing status – I’m engaged, I’m a wife/husband/spouse, I’m divorced, I’m widowed, I’m employed, I’m retired.

I am learning to call myself single now instead of widow. I am re-emerging and claiming my attributes. I am also at a point in life where I want to become better at living in the present and let go of anger about things in the past I cannot change. I could tell you all about my past, but at this age, we all have our pasts and must learn to connect in the present and for the future.

I am bold, passionate, adventurous, compassionate, colorful, sensual, unconventional, like to dance, like to create rituals to mark special occasions, and want to continue to learn new things - fishing, boating, growing food, alternative healing, etc. I enjoy reading and writing; a man who is very witty and articulate will catch my attention.

I'm not much of a drinker, though I can enjoy a social glass of Shiraz. I am an avid black tea drinker though! Just keep the kettle hot for me!

A former urban US gal, I moved to the Comox Valley in 2005 to live a more rural, sustainable lifestyle. My partner of 27 years died unexpectedly in December 2007. We had no children. I do have a cat.

I love being by the water and for 2010 I intend to take sailing lessons so I can enjoy being on it as much as I enjoy walking its shores. I feel blessed as well to be able to witness our magical mountain views, and enjoy wintertime snow shoeing and summertime hiking up at Mt. Washington.

The man I would be attracted to would:
*share my passion for local foods – growing it, wild crafting it, buying local, bartering, cooking. If you are a gardener/farmer, maybe I'll weed for you?!
* be conscientious about keeping your eco-footprint low. At a minimum, you recycle, eh?
* be articulate, witty, have a sense of humor. You have opinions and are willing to share them.
* not be a couch potato. I don’t watch TV but I do enjoy watching DVDs. What are some of your favorites?
* not smoke cigarettes and not be a heavy drinker. Nothing turns me off like a drunken, bloodshot eyed, stupid sounding person.
* not be someone who chooses to post photos of himself with a fancy sports car. An alternative fuel vehicle, a fishing boat…that’s a different story.
* understand the need to give a partner space, someone who could pursue separate interests and not define a relationship where we should do everything together, all the time

First Date
Not so important as whether the first contact leads to a second contact!

Walk a labyrinth together? Collect oysters on the shore, roast them over a fire and eat them? Gather seaweed for mulch?
