My editors all tell me I overwrite. (Pshaw!) So, short and honest, huh? I am a journalist in Long Beach and as such have always been an unabashed fan of underdogs and write about them regularly. I cover the Long Beach Cambodian community, the homeless and other so-called under-reported segments of the population. I've won a number of writing awards but I am happiest when I tell a story that makes a difference of puts a face on an otherwise amorphous issue. But I really like the awards, too.
I have a wide range of interests from my hometown Red Sox and Celts to the impressionists. High brows and low comedy. I'm a bit of a grammar nerd (you know, writer and all). My interests are only outweighed by the things I still want to do. I have growing bucket list.
I'd like to dive the Great Barrier Reef, but learn to SCUBA first. I'd like to see the sun rise over the Bospherous and set over Gulf of Thailand. I want to sail the Caribbean, but need to learn how to hoist a mizzen. And I'd chuck it all in a heartbeat for the chance to walk hand in hand with a life companion on a wooded lane kicking leaves on a brisk fall day or laying fresh tracks in first snow.
I could go on, but then we'd have nothing left to talk about. (When I'm nervous I ramble.)
As for, like, that character stuff. I am loyal, some think I'm funny, and I'd like that in whomever I meet. I would like to find someone to be active with: tennis, golf, hiking, (and, well, yeah, that too.)I'd like someone with some life experience who doesn't need a history book to know who Ronald Reagan is, but still has some tread on the tires and still willing to burn some rubber from time to time.
My favorite book is "The Great Gatsby," favorite author Steinbeck, favorite poet Mary Oliver. Favorite rock musician Springsteen (pre-Born In the USA, post Luckytown). Favorite Irish punk bands Flogging Molly and the Pogues. Favorite piece of music Beethoven's Pastoral. The next 5 musicians on my iPod Dire Straits, Roomful of Blues, Owana Salazar (slack key guitar) Tony Bennett, the Ramones.
I'm your prototypical good guy, with a little edge. But don't worry, I can work on being a self-possessed, arrogant, disrespectful lout for the right woman. I'm looking for companionship beyond the cat and the kid on her college vacations. If love or something like it comes along, all the better.

A pint of porter, a loaf of bread, and thou beside me singing in the wilderness. Or Khmer food in Cambodiatown? A picnic. A play. But not all at once. I'm not picky.
