I'm a reasonably nice, initially quiet, progressive, intelligent, funny, potentially-athletic-again guy with some (not-altogether-unfounded) literary ambitions. In addition to compound-hyphenated adjectives, I have several outside interests and am looking to be more active socially and physically. I could use a muse to inspire me, but having just consulted wikipedia, the only one available would be Thalia for some of my writing. Sadly, as there is no official muse for dedicated fitness training, I have resigned myself to the possibility that I may never dunk again. But I am making very good progress with a new road bike, so who knows.

I took up singing a few years ago and attend choir regularly (which happens to take place in a church; not that there's anything wrong with that). I've also done some community theater with named roles and eveything just to find out if I could and to hang out with my daughter, an increasingly much better singer than I am who has been in a few shows with me.

Ideally I'd like to be in the perfect long-term relationhsip (maybe this is an attempt to spin divorce into an act based on optimism), but I hope I don't rush into anything I shouldn't.

For me a first date needs to include ample time for conversation without too much background noise. Coffee's always good. If it's a movie it should be worth talking about afterward. I enjoy getting to know someone. On the off chance it's karaoke, I hope they have some decent songs for a bass. If it takes one or two drinks to keep the date from feeling like a job interview or an audition, that's fine. Not that I'll necessarily judge you (or me) if it takes three.
