About Me
ISTJ Hi, First Things First. I retired from the sea a few years ago and planted my oars in an orchard and garden. I’m faithful, dependable and fairly handy (unless it involves more than two electrical wires) and possess a wide ranging curiosity. Hobbies and interests are gardening, film, dining, billiards, investing, leaded glass, museums, pc’s and lately, politics has become more important. I also tend bluebird houses and during xmas, ring the kettle bell for the Army. My life has little drama and moves at a leisurely pace through life’s vicissitudes but I do stay active. I try not to take things overly seriously. Day trips to the cities for museums, shopping, plays and diverse ethnic cuisine are fun. Eating smart and exercise are aims because it’s the right thing to do rather than for any great enthusiasm for it. It’s part of taking care of myself so I can stay useful and vertical. No rock climber but love a brisk walk or bike ride on a park trail. Maybe next summer we can rent kayaks and paddle some of the Chicago River? My weight is 155 lbs. after a haircut. I try to give back to my community and am helpful to others. While able to cook an asparagus risotto, I'd rather be waited on in a nice restaurant. I tend to have a wry sense of humor and am more on the quiet side. I love variety and adventure at a casual pace. What do I want? Simple; companionship and intimacy in a monogamous, long term relationship where we grow closer as a couple with a romantic, and spiritual connection. Like many, I’ve known heartbreak and the joys of true romance when the world lights up with her smile. Both are part of the journey and being human. I have had long term relationships and miss having a playful activity companion, lover and confidante. Ladies with a good education, a spiritual basis for living and on the smaller or thinner side hold the most attraction for me. Life should be enjoyed with someone and we've become too isolated as a society. For example, I recently watched “Doubt” by myself. No one should have to watch a movie that sappy alone.
Music and media preferences are; Patty Griffin, Paul Thorn, Sinead, Kasey Chambers, Iris Dement, Allison Kraus, Leonard Cohen, Lucinda Williams, NPR, US News and the NY Times. Previous books read; The Outfit & The Black Swan, River Horse and lots of sci-fi. Recent fave movies seen; Little Chenier, Wristcutters, Bottle Shock, Goodbye Solo & The Ramen Girl.
Four things I think I know: 1 Humility is a virtue. 2 Judge people by their actions, not their words. 3 The rejuvenative value of afternoon naps. 4 Very little in life is funnier than a Swede with a lisp. 5 It’s spiritual, not religious. 6 Decaffeinated coffee is the devil's blend. ~Anon. 7 I'm grateful for the manners Mom taught me. They've stood me well.
Humility lesson; Several months ago I drove away from the gas pump with the hose still inserted in my car. It was ugly.
Fave quote and words to live by; “Say what you mean, do what you said you’d do and if you can’t make it, call.” Clancy I. This is the best time of our lives; knowledge, hopefully some wisdom and the good health to enjoy it all.
Do you have a favorite independent coffee house where we might meet? Otherwise, welcome to the piscine pond and good luck. Mark
First Date
Best first date ever; a lady from Dallas and I once met in New Orleans for Breakfast at Brennan's. You and I might simply try an excellent Thai restaurant on Argyle or Indian on Devon. An indie-movie in Highland Park? A trip to Hyde Park to see the Robie House and dinner at a noodle joint? Why not check out one of those chocolate dessert cafes in the city? Chocolate’s good for you right?
