About Me
I just turned 60 (June) but can't seem to change it on my profile - so let me be honest . It's been a lot of fun celebrating - a good start for the decade I'm hoping to meet a smart, fun, caring man, someone who is accomplished in his field - is generous of spirit - is positive, confident -and is supportive in laughter and love!
So I will now endeavor to describe myself..or at least try to pinpoint stuff that will create some overall relatively meaningful picture. A daunting task! Here goes......
I'm well educated, quite well read , intellectually curious with a great sense of humor and wry wit (i.e.. huge Larry David fan and I'm thrilled about the new season, and reunion). = I love a good laugh! I am also a very sensitive listener - a serious, caring and loyal friend. - and a profoundly connected partner. And - I have two very beautiful young cats (Mr. and Missy Katz) who are basking , totally relaxed, in the sunlight on the couch, as I write. Very Zen.
ALSO - I'm a serious film fan (loved the new Coen Brother's film) and spend too much time reading film reviews on line. I'm an art history buff and enjoy a good museum exhibit (the recent Kandinsky show at the Guggenheim is amazing!!!) I am politically passionate about supporting those who are attempting to repair /improve the world..... I'm a pretty good dancer (and have studied salsa) MUSIC - central to my life.... .. I sing alto in the Temple family choir - and I really WAS at Woodstock . I adore Mahler's 5th, - am deeply moved by Mercedes Sosa's recent death, can always kick back with Nina Simone or Neil Young, - and wish I went to more concerts.
I rarely totally finish the Sunday NY Times crossword puzzle .
Daily routine? I dvr colbert and stewart after teaching every afternoon. Always up for a Law and Order rerun! I frequently cook and enjoy finding new recipes.
I am a true New Yorker at heart. I need to visit the city and Westchester (home) once a year to check in. But I have lived in interesting places.
I studied Spanish Lit at Boston Univ. -and lived one year in Spain, reading lit /philosophy at the Univ. of Madrid. After college i moved to Europe. I married a Dutchman (an Amsterdamer - naturlijk) . Consequently I spent my 20's and 30's ( for 15 years) living in Delft and The Hague, Holland.
I worked as a diplomatic aide -interpreting/translating/writing for South American Embassies (wonderful career opportunity - Embajadas de Argentina y Uruguay) *- while enjoying the evolved, enlightened European lifestyle of the 70s and 80s. North sea oysters in season and Vermeer are always worthy of a return holiday trip,
I've worked now 20 yrs. for the L.A. School District as a bilingual (Spanish) 3rd grade teacher. I'm strongly committed to bringing the ARTS/MUSIC into my school community. I've implemented some successful ongoing programs which I'm proud of. Lots of singing,/theater/museum trips in my classroom - and always respect for the immigrant issues my kids face. I love my work - as well as the flexibility for time off and the long vacations. I've still got a few years before retirement.
I'm not experienced with internet dating - but I acknowledge it's the venue most single friends have taken, successfully, to meet new people - so I'm open to giving it a try. What kind of woman are you looking for?
Are you Interested in sharing future plans and creating memories - with someone who still listens to Leonard Cohen and watches old Polanski/Chabrol films? I wonder if this website will lead me to THE ONE - also wanting a relationship ---- - ---where mutual commitment is natural and a pleasure. - when you discover new ways to relax at home with a trusted partner (so important) , - as welll as explore new traveling routes and destinations together (I've got long vacations) and are enriched by mutual friends and families . (mine are smart, fun, and long lasting!!)
But really MOST important, (and nothing beats a great evening at the theater) when you find that love, at this time of life, can become that really fabulous, culminating third act, - resolving and reflecting earlier developments of the book. (...The critics were right! This is going to have a long run!!)) So perhaps we might just get lucky and find each other within this strange internet web. Now, (excuse the expression) THAT would be a MITZVAH! ( Jewish is not a must - but New York sensibility, and respect for the culture would be good)
