About Me
'“Love” is the condition in which the happiness of another person is essential to your own.' "Stranger in a Strange Land" by R. Heinlein
Hi, I now find myself at the beginning of life’s “third trimester”. I am an intelligent, witty, fun to be with, somewhat complex, adventurous man, with a great sense of humor, and I am well seasoned with an abundance of life’s convoluted educational experiences. I have been fortunate to have loved and been loved, and if I did not believe there can be more than one soul mate, I would not be here.
I sailed to Bermuda from Newport in the ’87 Bermuda 1-2 single-handed race and I placed my father’s ashes in the Gulf Stream. I single-handed my boat to Maine from Tortolla in the British Virgin Islands by way of Bermuda and I have sailed to most of the Windward and Leeward Islands, the Bahamas, Venezuela, Bonaire, Puerto Rico, the Turks and Caicos, Jamaica, Nova Scotia, and most of the eastern seaboard of the United States. I flew a 2-seat tail-dragger to Alaska and back, camping under the wing, and I spent a summer as First Mate on the Schooner Bowdoin, teaching Outward Bound classes out of Hurricane Island. I have some 10,000 hours in the air, most of them flying for a fishing fleet over the waters of the Atlantic Ocean from Maine to Georgia.
I can fix just about anything, have designed and built a house, and I worked as a foreign car mechanic before I started to make money flying for a living. I have owned many bikes and currently own a Triumph Daytona 1200, a 1966 Porsche 912, and a 1974 Jaguar XJ12L, though the Jag is pretty much a garage queen. I have been in 4 or 5 local bands, playing lead guitar from bluegrass to rock and roll. I have a lot to teach someone’s children, grown or growing, as I can be as comfortable being a House Dad as I can traveling to new places in the motor home, or ordering a bottle of '96 "Dom Pérignon" at a nice restaurant.
I have been faithful and monogamous in my relationships and expect that from my partner.
I spent last winter on Harkers Island in North Carolina, near the Southern Outer Banks, in my RV with my boat and my dog, my best buddy and companion of seven years, Gayla, my German Shepherd. Camden, Maine, was. and still is my home, but last winter I stayed South until the snow melted.
This winter I am looking for a spot in the Florida Keys, perhaps on a canal that leads to the ocean, and plan on leaving here in October, stopping in Maryland on the eastern shore at a marina that a friend owns, then Harkers Island, Charleston, W. Palm Beach, and from there to the Keys.
I have arrived in the Florida Keys, my nephew driving the truck and I towing the boat behind the RV. We stopped at the lower Chesapeake Bay, Ocrakoke Island, Harkers Island, and then on to the Keys where I found my spot for the winter. It's on Geiger Key, about 10 miles from Key West. We watched the Offshore Power Boat Championship last weekend, from my boat, and made a trip out past the Marquesas to the Dry Tortugas and Fort Jefferson before he left to go back North to the frozen tundra. :-) The plan is to stay till April or May.
It's time for my last relationship, the one that carries my soul mate and I through a plethora of adventures, travels, candlelight dinners by the fire or on the beach, and warm snuggles that last forever.
Dog lover a must... :-)
First Date
My first date would be a casual lunch at a restaurant new to the both of us, where we could talk for a half hour, a half day, or a half lifetime.
