About Me
I hate having root canal work, eating Brussels Sprouts and writing a self-profile (and not necessarily in that order). Well, here it goes...I was born in Neath, Wales, Great Britain but as a child I was transplanted to Toronto. Since 1986 I have lived in the Vancouver area.
I have now reached 60 years living on this planet(as of June 13, 2009) but I look much younger than most 93 year old men. Actually I credit my immaturity for keeping me young (just kidding...well sort of kidding)
I am not folliclely-challenged. In fact, I still have a full head of hair that is naturally dark (and without the use of Grecian Formula I may add).
I have gone back to the local community centre gym but I am not a gym freak. Believe me, at 60, it is out of necessity rather than pleasure (I mean really; would you want to be on the treadmill next to some sweaty guy named Rocko, who has eaten garlic for 5 days straight and thinks having two showers a week is excessive?)
Seriously, being British by birth, I am inclined to off-the-wall humour (i.e. Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, Little Britain),...and my fav stand-up comic and satirist, the late, great George Carlin, R.I.P.
Some of my favourite North American TV shows over the years have been; Cheers, House, Office, M.A.S.H., Becker, Seinfeld, Family Guy (sometimes),"Real Time" with Bill Maher (former host of "Politically Incorrect"), and the very unusual Craig Ferguson Late Late Show. I could go on and list many more but why?
As far as education goes, I have a BA in political science from York University. Politically, I lean to the left and I consider myself a social democrat, although I have no problem getting along with my right of centre friends. I do this by not discussing politics with them; after all, in the end, they know I'm right (but not as in right-wing, politically-speaking ...LOL)
As you can see by my pictures, I still dabble as a musician/songwriter.
I used to play in the Toronto band, the London Fog, way back in the sixties. While we did reasonably well, only one of the band members, Eddie Schwartz, went on to become a multiple Juno award winner, the current president of the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame, and extremely wealthy from his songwriting talents; writing Pat Benetar's biggest hit ("Hit Me With Your Best Shot" that sold over 2 million copies worldwide) plus songs for Hall & Oates, Donna Summer, Rita Coolidge, America, the Doobie Brothers, etc. (but alas, it wasn’t poor old me).
I am into classic rock (Beatles, early Rolling Stones, some AC/DC, CCR, Moody Blues, Guess Who, the early Who, Def Leppard, Young Rascals (not so young anymore though), Steppenwolf, Doobie Brothers, Eagles, Boston) more than today’s pop music. I also enjoy music from the 60’s R&B scene (Wilson Pickett, Sam & Dave, Percy Sledge, etc.).
While I strongly dislike rap and hip hop (please don’t call a rapper a singer; it’s an insult to those who can really sing). It just occured to me; most of the guys who played in the 60's bands are once again back into the 60's thing (unfortunately, this time around, it's not the decade but age). I even liked some and I stress the word “some” of the grunge music from the 90’s.
I am not a big fan of the nasally, red-neck, twangy type of old-style country music but I don’t mind some country-rock or, if you prefer, new country. Shania Twain comes to mind but I think I may be just a tad influenced by her looks!
I prefer women who are thin to average. If I am working out at the gym to fight the ravages of time, I would like the woman I am with to be at least average in shape for her age.
Although it is not a hard, fast rule, I tend to date women who are several years younger than me (usually in the 45 to 55 year old range).
I enjoy traveling to warm, southern climates (and I don’t mean Blaine, Washington). On vacations I prefer air-conditioned rooms with a Jacuzzi, cable TV, a bottle of champagne, with a balcony overlooking the ocean; as opposed to a tent in an over-crowed campsite with a lake that has water imported directly from the Arctic!
For the most part, I enjoy watching movies in the comfort of my home, instead of a theatre that has an over-priced admission, fake-buttered pop corn, flat Coke, and some guy, sitting directly behind me, who thinks the back of my chair is a foot rest for his convenience. After all, since it took me a year to save up 9,800 airmiles, mainly from Safeway, (does anyone want to buy toilet paper or puddings?) to get my 37 inch, Toshiba HDTV, I want to get good use out of it!
Having owned a home in White Rock, I enjoy those warm, summer days, walking along the beach; and then people-watching while having a meal of fish & chips with a pint of beer at the outdoor patio of my favourite White Rock restaurant; feeling the warmth of the sun as I enjoy good conversation with those at my table.
I am opposed to any form of cruelty to animals. When an individual mistreats an animal, it’s a good indication of a person who has a deficiency in kindness; not just to animals but to people as well.
BTW, although I am not divorced, I have been separated from my estranged wife since 1991 (she lives in Ontario with another man).
My self-created motto is “I’d be perfect if I wasn’t so bloody humble!” ----------------------------------- Since I put my mug on POF, I modestly request the same of anyone writing me. Sorry but no pic = no reply (if no pic is in your profile then please put one in your message, thanks).
