About Me
Note: the other free site I'm on (OK----) actually encourages you to write, so I copied most of my profile here (template and all). Why not?

Hey everyone, nice to meet you!

I'd best describe myself as an Individualist, which I encourage in others.
I'm very independent and honest.

I like Austin. I've lived here now for over three years. I'm originally from northern Virginia and I lived in San Francisco for two years prior to moving here.

I have lots of interests which include music, literature, guitar, film, philosophy, politics, travel, writing, day trading...

I like to go out, see bands and try different things.
I go to Barton Springs a lot in the summer.

I go out a lot, usually downtown on the weekends, as I don't live that far away. I live alone in south Austin (hence, the computer pics).

The first things people usually notice about me:

I'm tall, thin, fit, and I guess the term, lanky (though never heard anyone say so and it sounds unflattering).

I can come across as kind of aloof at times, though it's always a miss-perception, I think.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food:

Music: Rock, blues, jazz. Mostly, l like rock, 60s and 70s, some contemporary bands, mostly modern songwriters and older blues musicians. I listen to a lot of contemporary bands, just don't mention many here. (I play guitar some and I feel I know music, though I don't have an incessant need to talk bands all the time, don't worry).

(the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Doors, David Bowie, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, Velvet Underground, Cat Stevens, Ryan Adams, Radiohead, Leonard Cohen, Fleet Foxes, Dead Weather, Bonnie Prince Billy, Black Keys, White Stripes, the Verve, NIN, The Kills, Smiths, Ramones, Black Sabbath, Lucinda Williams, Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, Jimmy Reed, Gram Parsons, John Prine, Lightnin' Hopkins, Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Miles Davis... Lots more)

FILM (Directors) : Altman, Scoresese, Kubrick, P.T. Anderson, Coen Bros, Wes Anderson, Truffaut, documentaries, lots of comedies, JIM CAREY. Maybe it's pretentious to list directors, but whatever...

(ie. Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, Casino, McCabbe & Mrs. Miler, Boogie Nights, Magnolia, Thieves Like Us, The Game, Good Fellas, The Deer Hunter, Double Indemnity, Rosemary's Baby, Truman Show, The Last Picture Show, Old School, etc... I love movies. I try to see Everything).

TV: FAMILY GUY, Letterman.

Favorite Writers:
Philip Roth, D.H. Lawrence, Shakespeare, Celine, Albert Camus, Henry Miller, Hemingway, Melville, Kerouac, Rechy, James T. Farrell, Conrad, Checkov, Carver, Dostoyevsky, Nietzsche, Knut Hansum, Rimbaud, Fernando Pessoa, Jung, eastern and western philosophy, poetry... Joseph O'Neil's Netherland(!).

Really, these days, I don't read as much and I blame the internet for making everyone A.D.D. (self included).
I'm open to new books and I'd take recommendations.

Food: Anything. Thai and Mexican are good. I like to eat out, sure.

On a typical Friday night I am:

I like to have fun with friends. Usually, I'm out at bars and places. I like to go out at night.
As for downtown, I tend to frequent what I consider just regular bars. Prefer a show or a party, but this is a 'typical' Friday.
I'd like the Eastside, though I can most often be found in the Redriver area. I'll go to any bar - they're just BARS! Right?

It's actually damn hard for me to be on this site and be serious at the same time. I'm not a 'dater' and I really prefer to meet people when I'm out - though so would everyone. I could seem a little unconventional about some things (I'm a guy and I could go care less about football or taking pictures of myself next to a sports car) but overall I'm actually pretty normal and receptive to others.

I've been told my pictures are bad, or I take bad pictures, or one of those two. I think I'm just not photogenic. Or maybe it's worse. I don't know.

Gotta love how POF has 'owning a car' listed as a major prerequisite. If nothing else, and everything falls flat, I have a car! Can't be that bad, right?

First Date
I think, seeing how this is the internet, a first date shouldn't really be considered a date, but more like a 'meet up'. (Really, sorry to kill your dreams, but I don't see the point of sharing dinner with a stranger) After we first meet, then we could do whatever else.

Thanks for reading. Good luck everyone!
