I've quit smoking. So I cough less and anything with calories has grabbed onto my belly. So I joined a hiking club where I've always sweated thru my clothes by the time we finished. I don't have to have the 30 in waist of my 30 yr old body, but smoking spoiled me by keeping the numbers in the right perspective. I'm fighting my way back down to 160 or 170 from 180 and I hate it. I don't want to sound harsh but if you weigh more than me I probably don't want to go out with you. Maybe that will change when I get down to the proper weight in a few months.

If you're old enough to date me, by now you've got good sense.

I've been in love. I loved being in love. I remember how it is to connect on a deep emotional and spiritual basis with your special someone. When it blooms you can't deny it. But like the weather, you just can't predict it.

The last time I was in love like that was probably 10 years ago and I admit I miss it. But I've learned to be comfortable being alone and have spent most of these past years in solitude. I'd rather be alone than with the wrong person.

I have had some casual relationships in the meantime, most were fun, but like Chinese food, not real filling. I've even tried several times, at different ages, to build love from scratch, with a close friend or someone I admired. It just wasn't the same thing and we could both feel something was missing. Not just the romantic fireworks, but that deep connection and concern that lets you put them first, sometimes even ahead of you. I think real, passionate love is a happy miracle. A gift.

So if you're only on a quest for Mr. Right, you can probably screen me out now. I'm not interested in meeting women with a "marriage only" agenda. Superglue or bust aren't the kinds of relationships that interest me.

I'm not sure I'll find a perfect fit here in electron land. I'm not even sure that everyone gets to meet their right match.

But I am sure you can't win if you don't enter. Each day, we probably pass by hundreds of perfect matches without recognizing them, out there as we go about our business. So at heart, I guess I'm an optimist. Not sure if my glass is half full, but pretty sure I've got a glass, anyway.

Let's get together one day for coffee, or some other minimal investment, and "browse" each other. We'll see if there is instant attraction, or camaraderie that can build a friendship. Real love can't start w/o friendship anyway. Who knows, we might get lucky.
