About Me
"Though I am a typical loner in my daily life, my consciousness of belonging to the invisible community of those who strive for truth, beauty, and justice has preserved me from feeling isolated." - Einstein

- this quote is more about community than being a "loner"...but I figure those who are also a part of this community will quickly see what I mean...and it's great that the community is becoming more and more visible!

Hmm...me :) well I’m a definite RENAISSANCE MAN…but, wow! Where to start? I am always a work in progress, and, as such, will always thrive on conscientious, enlightened perspectives which resonate and may help shape my future and that of my community (whether local, global, human, animal, or environmental). In fact, often by the time this profile is posted I have realized something more about the world, about myself, about my relation and responsibility to this world.

The philosopher in me is always questioning the world in which we live. I’ve been so fortunate (and extremely grateful) to have (make? Or choose?) some amazing experiences in my life that have transformed me in some very deep ways. Most of them, however, had to do with opening myself to something which I had never experienced or contemplated before.

My various internet profiles (usually copied and pasted and updated every year or so) will always be parts: who I’ve been (as I’m always growing and, as such, even a few days after this profile it will fail to represent me); who I am (as this embodies much of the essence of me); who I wish to be (as I am sure there are things here in which I believe, but do not yet fully live), who I’ll be, and those whom I seek (as some arbitrary ideal of traits and characteristics of a potential partner of varied sorts: friend, lover, activities, intellectual partner in banter, etc. Take nothing at face value, but question, both me and yourself as to whether any of these ideas resonate or not?

Let's start w/some of the questions, about which, it seems, for some reason, many who write want to know.

Some of what you see here is borrowed from the brilliant and beautiful minds of people and ideas that have crossed my path at various points in my life. For I see myself as a product of all those resonant chords and ideas.

First, "what do do for a living?" Are any of us defined by our pasts? Truly? I am probably least defined by what I have done for a living so far in life. Currently, I am a student who’s finishing up my second degree in Philosophy and Anthropology focusing on medical, nutritional, and consciousness. I plan to be an Osteopath or Integrative doctor practicing something called “medicine” but which often has much less to do with medicine (whether natural, holistic, alternative, or allopathic) and much more to do with the choices we make everyday of our lives! Ultimately, energy and balance are the truest medicines in the cosmos. But “food” is THE most powerful medicine!

I’m also Nutrition/Health Counselor, a Computer Technician, a Disc Jockey; but, if pressed, I would state that I am a insatiable student, jack-of-all-trades. I am very much an intellectual, but I am also VERY open to more metaphysical (and philosophically metaphysical) endeavors as well. In my first I majored in Jewish Studies (particularly modern Jewish history, Zionism, Israel, Middle East, Arab-Israeli & Palestinian-Israeli conflicts, etc), History, and had minors in Philosophy (which may become a major in my second degree), Psychology, and Hebrew [update: i've just finished my 2nd degree in Philosophy with Anthropology and Chemistry minors so all I’ve left is retaking some of my med school pre-reqs].

With that said, my true interests are life: Permaculture, people, learning, Raw foods, vegan raw foodism (though I still consider myself a flexitarian), nutrition, health, and especially geopolitics/economics and political economy; for as much as we all would love to believe that everything would be perfect if we just showed love all over the world, there are still those who don’t subscribe to such a philosophy, and through their fear tend to take our many social systems severely out of balance. Ultimately, the only approaches that have worked have been small decentralized, interconnected communities of people and nature who realize that everything is interconnected. But realizing that the answer is almost never (is it ever??) top-down, or even astro-turfed (as opposed to true grass roots). The answer is seemingly right in the hearts and minds of the small communities who determine their own values and become the change they want to see in the world.

I am open to seeing whom the universe puts on my path (or onto whose path it may put me) for whatever reason. I consider myself able to grow from and appreciate all types of people. Some might call me a spiritual and philosophical fisherman lounging on the river seeking beings of spirit, love and light who swim by, nibble (and please feel free to nibble away), or jump into my boat (or invite me into theirs) for a time.

Third, "what [am I] looking for?" See above: I am open to unique, enlightening, intelligent, curious, passionate, and (for those who might dare to want something deeper and more serious) understanding, compassionate, nurturing and deeply loving individuals who care about the universe, starting w/themselves-- but also care deeply about others and aren’t afraid to walk into the face of a brisk wind!!--and someone to whom the principles of social justice, learning, teaching, living in the world of ideas and action, making the world a better place (tikkun olam), and most importantly love, light, consciousness, and an intimate relationship to nature are ESSENTIAL to their path in life.

I am very attracted (and NOT necessarily romantically) to intelligent, creative/artistic, intellectual, educated, but even more importantly SPIRITUAL, CURIOUS, PASSIONATE, and AWARE people who believe in making the world a better place and not necessarily taking the path of least resistance (though at times that is a necessary alternative). At the same time, I tend to do better with artists, healers, nurturers, intellectuals, and activists (but not to those who are closed or locked onto a particular popular ideology). This does not mean I am not open to someone with a very different set of beliefs and values.

Health is very important to me. I still eat meat and animal products (quite little), but [esp. when NOT in school] am evolving into more of a live and raw-food vegetarian nutritional philosophy and, gradually, lifestyle (probably 95% vegetarian, 85% vegan, and about 40-50% raw currently). I am trying to get much more in touch with my intuitive, emotional, and loving self and balance/temper the uber-rational, left-brained, reptilian self that seems to been manifest in earlier periods of my life. Finding this balance, while attemp

First Date
Finding this balance, while attempting to thrive in school, is at times difficult. I don’t consume pharmaceuticals--stopped long ago--and minus a recent accident, haven't been to a doctor in roughly 12 years (and dentists don’t count…sorry dentists ? ).

My theology is simple: most institutionalized religion (and many other institutions of power) is a huge turn-off for me because it uses fear to control and repress instead of love and compassion to inspire. Too often, like many institutions which seek and obtain power and control, they end up keeping humanity divided and conquered.

I most enjoy spending time with Buddhists, Hindus, Jews (especially Kabbalists, Jewish Pagans and Wiccans, and various Chavurot), as well as non-Jewish Pagans, Wiccans, Spiritualists, and other groups of OPEN-MINDED mystical, conscious, reflexive, and aware people of various walks of life who realize that there is more that unites us than separates us. Though I also love agnostics..for how can we really known anything for sure (epistemically, I don’t even know if I believe an objective world exists outside of me, so how can I say for sure that I KNOW anything about it when there are others who see the same things quite differently). Most importantly, I want to spend time with ANYONE who is spiritual, tolerant, and insatiably yearning to grow. I believe very strongly in natural (especially preventative) health and a healthy, holistic, lifestyle which includes my studies of energy, chemistry, essential oils, herbs, and various Eastern Philosophies and other unique medical and nutritional Anthropology. That said, while I incorporate reductionism into my daily life (damn academy keepin’ me down!! ? ), I believe that holistic synergies are much more powerful that the sum of all the parts.

WARNING: I'm quite open to someday (like 10 years) living in New Zealand (or some similar place--am VERY open to other suggestions), in a comfortable, self-sustaining, energy-efficient, and ecologically-friendly home and property in (preferably) the forested foothills of a scenic mountain range (or other ecosystems), growing much of my food in rich volcanic soil. I especially enjoy living in ecological and spiritual balance utilizing principles from PERMACULTURE among many other paradigms.

I started limiting my consumption of the corporate media and "news" several years ago (TV in general…it’s just used for movies, and occasionally some sports) as I find that what the 4 corporations who own 97% of all media define as news MAY be "new" (and I could debate that); however, to me, is hardly “newsworthy,” and, just fearful enough to motivate mindless neo-liberal material consumerism. I would love to see our country choose more integrative policies and paths, instead of being enticed by money, power, greed, fear, and control...
