About Me
I'm easily amused and like to make others laugh. There are things to learn and explore all around us. I collect rocks, so I like to go out into nature about once a week if I can for that or just to be there. I play guitar and read music--can accompany others. And I'm a writer and translator--because I love language and languages. I want to write at least one really good book. I hope I've already have done that, actually. I like to learn new things and talk about them with others who are in the know, especially about spirituality, history, philosophy, literature, Asian cultures, languages... I see all these things as being "liberal arts"--which are my thing. As for music, I listen to a lot of New Age, including Enya. That's mostly when I am at work or else when I am doing creative writing. Otherwise, I listen to classical. I went through a whole Wagner/Bruckner phase, but now I am determined to appreciate Mozart, and I have been partially successful in that attempt. I still don't get Mahler, but I know this is something I should do. Also like folk rock (James Taylor, Joni Mitchell etc.) and any guitar instrumentals in any genre (Wes Montgomery--jazz; Chet Atkins--country; etc.). But of course there are times for every kind of music. Hmmm. I also listen to Broadway musicals at times, but selectively. I just got Tom Waits' Bone Machine, and it's fantastic.
First Date
I don't believe in a "first date." Americans put too much emphasis on this. It is as if one wanted to stop off at McDonald's and pick up a life partner. Things don't work that way. It is better to be friends first. That way, no matter what happens, you have a human connection that remains. And if something more happens, it will be deeper and more meaningful. So how would we meet for the first time? It would be a natural thing, developing out of conversation and the usual things we do.
