About Me
My priority is on awareness and appreciation of all that life offers. I lead an active and healthy life, enjoy being outdoors, connecting and collaborating with others, struggle with being human, laughing and listening and collect independent/foreign films for rainy days. I'm a Scot, a decent baker, mostly a fish vegetarian and a good cook of Indian, Asian and Arabic dishes.
I enjoy well made 'things', dry wit, satire and the absurd. I can be funny and like to hear people laugh - good for our souls. I value a relationship in which there is much open discussion - of anything and everything - yet we are attuned and sensitive to each other as partners. I want a committed relationship where my life is witnessed and filtered back to me in a loving and honest way so that I may know myself better and reciprocate in kind....I prefer the big fat happy guy to the bloke nailed to bits of wood....
I have stopped trying to save the world and thus have passion to spare if want to meet a high energy, low maintenance, creative, lively man). I value my integrity, honesty, sense of humour. Much of my passion these days goes on playing music, the arts, traveling. I enjoy most aspects of non-Anglo cultures and all the richness they bring to my life. One carry-on. I dance (though I believe it's forbidden in Vancouver.....), do galleries, bookstores, teach scuba, walk, cycle, swim, golf for fun. Enjoy art, architecture, theatre, film, etc. fiction with good lines. I support slow food and have become a bit of a foodie. I'm as much at home in Spain, France and Italy as I am in English speaking countries.
On the material side I owned language schools in Paris & Stockholm, a charter boat in northern BC. Paid for education as a musician & tour guide in Europe, North Africa and Scandinavia. Editor for a major press, college principal, teacher, retired in '99 and went to Spain where I started a successful computer business. Sold it and am now a musician who gets paid to play. Or stop …..));- I prefer substance over form and hope you do too.
As for hobbies, I will share yours unless you're a Morris dancer or necromancer …I am 68 as of Nov 2008. I refuse to eliminate myself from my age cohort because of preconceptions, stereotyping and dodgy GUIs. And I hope you do too. I hope I don't fit any stereotypes.
Otherwise mine include melodic jazz, (+ Latin, Motown, Ella, Sarah, Porter, Rogers, Broadway, Shearing)arts, travel, dancing, creative cooking (non anglo), social justice, literature, philosophy, computer creature (analyst),anything which catches my fancy, psychology, languages.
First Date
We can decide that after the coffee/drink/walk thing.
PS Having been online longer than god I am acutely aware that emailing and IM are not viable media for relationship building purposes. They are rife with unintentional inferences and implications. Composing nuance free text is hugely time consuming and my time is too valuable to waste doing it...That said I would like to talk on the tel or Skype/MSN ASAP if it seems we might find things in common.
Twain summed it up nicely when he said, "I'm sorry this letter is so long, I didn't have time to make it shorter"...... cheers, /g
