I am a writer and college-level English teacher; I love my work. For recreation, I favor independent films, live music (I like old school punk, rockabilly, Motown, doo-wop, 60s pop, some new alternative), funky bars, eclectic restaurants, lectures and museums... Enigmatic, slightly quirky, sometimes outspoken, sometimes shy... Self-reflective, generous, warm, witty, a bit cynical. Unconventional but able to move in a range of social circles comfortably. Unabashedly cerebral and sensual; earthy in the sense of lacking pretense or artifice. Serious about lots of things--teaching, writing, feminism, social justice--but rarely without humor. I have 3 grown kids (2 in college, one beyond it) who are all smart, engaging, and well-adjusted--phew! And 4 cats (not so smart or well-adjusted...).

I am looking for an intellectual, emotional, and physical partnership; shared values, a shared aesthetic, some overlapping interests... a connection that both traverses and transcends "common ground," and crackles with sexual energy…. I think that means I want to fall in love. And stay there...

Predilections you might share (or learn to appreciate?): chocolate, breathless laughter, really good conversation (sometimes deep into the night), lists (and crossing things off them), early punk rock, Joan Didion, hot sun, architecture, Edward Gorey, popcorn, (parentheses), Elvis paraphernalia, Thai food, Jane Eyre, underdogs, ethnography, independent films, Motown, metaphor, the NY Times crossword puzzle in bed on a Sunday morning…

I have no sense of rules about the shape this ought to take, except that it must include the opportunity for conversation...
