I'm a well-educated long-time single dad, who is self-employed. Now that my daughter is off at university, I've got the time and ability to see the world. My job is portable, and so I am able to pack up and head off when the mood strikes me. Mind you, I'm also pretty grounded because I have a hobby farm and a couple of horses, which also keep me occupied. I also enjoy doing work on my century farm, and spending time with friends. Family is also important to me. My dad recently passed away, and my Mum is now on her own, so I can't go too far away, in case something happens to her (my Mum lives three hours away from me, and my two siblings are much farther away, so I'm the handiest for dealing with things Mum needs help with).

I am a somewhat complex person, because I have done many different things in my life and have a variety of interests, so I find it difficult to organize my thoughts here right now. I will have to give it a little more consideration and add more. I do like to be active and enjoy the outdoors. I enjoy hiking, cycling, and paddling (although a recent hip-resurfacing has slowed the hiking a bit). I definitely enjoy traveling and have been on several trips in the past few months. However, I also enjoy curling up with a good book. I enjoy variety when it comes to music, although I don't listen to music a lot. While my job is mainly intellectual, I am also quite handy, having refinished an old (1860s) farmhouse. Being fit and active is important to me.

As I've said, family is important to me. I've been a single dad since my daughter was 11 months old, and have had to make many changes to accommodate her needs as she grew. However, she is now 22 and in her third year of university, so I am a lot more flexible.

I believe that variety is important, and to avoid being stuck in a rut, I have made two major career changes, each about 10 years apart.

I am really content with myself and my lifestyle, the only thing that would make it complete would be to find someone compatible who shares enough similar interests, while having other interests of her own, to spend a lot of time with, and see where it leads. Whoever that person may be, it has to be someone who is reasonably fit, has a similar philosophy of life, and is someone who I am strongly attracted to physically. I like where I live, and would be reluctant to move, but it isn't completely out of the question.

So what do I have to offer someone? In me, you get someone who is
very concerned with environmental,
handy,
generous with his time and money,
not a conspicuous consumer,
most often seen wearing jeans,
a considerate lover,
a good cook,
active,
willing to try different things,
a good listener, and
accomplished, but doesn't not blow his own horn,

I looking for someone who shares enough common ground. You have to be interesting and active, and fit enough to keep up with me. One of my pet peeves with PoF is that a lot of people describe their body types as athletic when they really mean that they are active people. I've cycled almost 10,000 km since having my hip rebuilt a year ago, but until I lose about 10 more pounds, my body type is average (okay somewhat more athletic than average, but average for me).

I would imagine that anyone I am going to meet is someone that I have clicked with after communicating on line for a while. At that point, I am sure that we will have a bit better idea of something that we would both like to do. So depending on our interests, that first date might be a nice meal in a good restaurant, a walk in the park, or perhaps a spur of the moment flight to the Casbah in Marrakesh.
