I am looking for a smart, funny, outgoing woman to hang out with.

What other people say about me- I am a funny, sometimes shy but usually outgoing guy who enjoys books, music (both listening and playing), getting outdoors, and recreational bicycling. I am full of energy, but sometimes I think too much. I am goofy and off the wall.

What I say about me- OK. I am very good at starting conversations with strangers. I mean, lets say we are at a coffee bar, and you are wearing a Berkley Jazz Festival T-Shirt. I might say “Wow! I was there! What did you think of Wynton Marsalis? I thought his playing was amazing!” and since we were both there, we might talk some more about other related interests. I am pretty good at discovering those kinds of common interests with other people. Unfortunately, this kind of dynamic interaction doesn’t exist on dating sites. So I am at a little bit of a disadvantage here. This is more like filling out a job application. So if you find writing your dating profile as uncomfortable as I do, we already have something in common. Feel free to vent.

I agree with my friends that I am friendly, and I do think too much about stuff. Oh, yeah. And even though I am funny, I’m funny in that spontaneous way that depends on our sharing some experience and I make a joke about it. Again, it doesn’t really work in dating profiles. This is like someone telling their friends about how funny you are and then saying, “Go on, say something funny!”
You just sit there like a deer caught in headlights while everyone stares at you.

I have many hobbies. I recently started to take guitar lessons again, and I like music of all kinds. I believe music should say something meaningful about life, our shared human emotions, or our condition, so music written to sell products is lowest on my list of what I like. Anything else I will give a try, but I mostly listen to Rock (all kinds) and some Jazz. I love gadgets and technology, and taught myself to cook.

I like books, and have my Bachelor’s in English Literature. I am currently getting my Masters in the Earth and Environmental Sciences.

Well, that depends. I guess it would have to be something we both like to do and where we could also talk to each other to see if a second date was worth doing.
