About Me
I am a retired college teacher/actor/psychotherapist. I have taught in several different fields, including Literature, Psychology, and Theater. I'm aware that my "separated" marital status is off-putting to some, but when we meet, you will immediately see that I have a unique and non-threatening situation. With the exception of a four year relationship, I have lived alone for the past 17 years. Judging from the horror stories I am hearing, I am far more open and available than most. I am open to all compelling relational possibilities, including marriage.
Also, you should know that my rottweiler is very non-aggressive and is, in fact, downright sweet. She is only a year old and she has always been treated like a very young, beloved child. She wants to meet you and lick you! And, I am proud to say, one of her more recent accomplishments is figuring out where the squirrels disappear to when she chases them: now, instead of running around in circles looking inquisitively at the ground, she knows to look up the tree! This only happened last week, so my fatherly pride is still brimming.
Like most people, I'm looking for companionship and love. As for me, I'm a good natured, funny man. I'm playful and quick witted. I have always loved learning so I have an intellectual tendency. I like to have fun with words. I also love music, especially vocal music. I like classically trained voices and spend a good deal of time surfing Youtube to watch and listen to scenes from operas and concerts, but I also like some popular singers: Sissel, Nat King Cole, Robert Goulet and, most especially, Shirley Bassey. I love live theater, and I also love film. My favorite novel is Cormack McCarthy's "Blood Meridian"; my favorite local theater is The Shakespeare Tavern (when they're having a good night), and my favorite Youtube performance so far is Carreras and Sissel singing "Quando Sento Che Mi Ami"("When You Tell Me That You Love Me"). My favorite film is "The Dresser," a film about putting on a production of King Lear. So far as I know, this is the best film ever made on the subject of theater and the stresses of acting. I also love The Ninth Configuration, a wonderful cult classic about radical psychotherapy.
Due to inheriting a large house with an unconscionably large lawn, I have become s reluctant groundskeeper, so I spend about 5 hours a week riding a lawnmower. I also teach part time several evenings a week, and I like to work out at the gym at least three times a week. These are my only time consuming commitments other than entertaining two dogs.
I am in excellent health and feel and act much younger than my years. I still don't know what old age is and don't much care. Mainly, I enjoy maturity after having spent a lifetime being younger than everybody else (I skipped a grade in elementary school and never caught up with my one-year-older peer group.)
I would enjoy hearing from you.
P.S. My photographs were made in March 2009, just before my 70th birthday in April. Are yours recent?
First Date
On a first date I'd enjoy a meal in a quiet restaurant and then taking a walk through a park. I'd also enjoy seeing a film together, or going to a museum together, to see if our thoughts and feelings are compatible.
