It may sound ironic, having enjoyed running a successful online publishing company without having done the online dating scene, but ordinarily I wouldn't turn to spending free time in front of a computer screen (whether actively or passively) without a business purpose at hand.

Regarding dates and relationships (to the extent I've ever had any, of course, as I'm seeking -- and saving myself for -- the opportunity to court "Ms. Right"), I do truly like being strong, chivalrous, impressive, and a gentleman (despite what they might initially profess, believe me when I say from experience that, deep down, few girls really are comfortable with or can appreciate this long-term or even semi-mid term) once getting to know someone in a friendly or informal fashion, and feel these attributes are absolutely compatible with my desire for a woman who is (with good reason) proud, optimistic and independent in her own right, with her own interests, endeavours, values, and opinions, yet unafraid -- and with the self-respect -- to allow herself to deserve being treated like a lady (without viewing it as selfish on her part or a put-down on mine), who doesn't need a man as a prerequisite for feeling good about herself (quite the contrary in my opinion).

Idealistic? Arrogantly high standards? Perhaps so, but that's what having fun, being a confident romantic at heart, flexible (from business suits to jeans and cowboy boots), willing to consider new ideas, adventures, and people (without lowering one's standards), and believing in fate (both romantically and throughout life) is, in my opinion, all about. It is possible she might -- though not necessarily -- be a little shy, jaded, apprehensive or cynical at the present time, difficult to find or approach, perhaps doesn't realize she's glamorous and alluring, and, like me, definitely prefers quality over quantity; however, I have faith she's out there looking for me, too (although, by outward appearances, she may have given up, instead spending time doing things for herself, because we all know happens when we're not looking but where preparation meets opportunity).

If you're still reading, then CONGRATULATIONS: you exemplify F. Scott Fitzgerald's axiom about what the ability to hold in mind two contradictory thoughts at the same time means. Neither income, perceived social standing, nor chronological age matter because, as we all also know, those are relative things when it comes to integrity, companionship and compatibility (the latter two should, enjoyably, take time and patience to develop after the initial sparks).

I love my nieces and nephew as if they were my own, and live a clean, healthy lifestyle -- just ask the kids less than half my age around whom I run circles on the basketball court -- but judge the results for yourself, firsthand (such as, e.g., whether my "six-pack abs" have reappeared after a four-year hiatus while licking a sciatic nerve pinch; don't worry, I'm too selfless and self-critical to be a narcissist). Energy, enthusiasm, originality, and genuine thought are definite turn-ons; spelling and grammar errors or even the faintest scent of insincerity or cynicism are not, as the -- nonjudgmental, I assure you! -- editor in me can't help but assume those weren't overlooked beforehand.
