For a first date, really anything simple is ok. Sometimes it's good to just meet for lunch to see if there is any connection at all. If there is a connection, you can always do something more interesting like a hike, racquetball, yoga, or whatever. Keeping it pretty simple on the first date to get to know each other is usually a good policy.
