I was working late. Grinding out the last few paragraphs on a way over-due report. Everyone had gone home for the day. The cleaning staff turned out most of the lights when they left. The glow from my computer screen and the hallway lights were the only indicators that anyone was still in the building. The faint scent of perfume found it's way to my desk. Probably left over from one of our classier clients. Expensive. A fragrance that numbs a man's mind. Leaves him begging for more even when he gets kicked to the curb.

A shadow. Looking up, the doorway was silhouetted by a very feminine figure. How long has she been there? How did she get in?

She reaches inside her handbag. Slowly a shiny object emerges, deliberately slow. Intended to make me think. Time enough to think about past mistakes, but not enough time to get to the window.

"Before you do that, you should know you could go to jail" I tell her.

A who cares laugh, "There's no one else here" she says.

The bright flash tells me everything. She still can't kick those cigarettes.

"Let's get a drink."

"OK."

First dates are exciting and can be coffee, drinks or anything we have in common. I like the Blues bars now and then.
