About Me
After 32 yrs of high school teaching in Vancouver I now live on the Gulf Islands. I live at the seashore and considerable time is spent doing things that people in the city take for granted (or wish they had time to do). I enjoy the simplicity and serendipity of nature's life forces doing their thing throughout the year. I gauge my day to day life on the environment. For instance, I enjoy during the cooler months investing time in preparing for the winter season doing outdoor activities like chopping and stacking wood. I find a bit of physical work to be cathartic and a great form of exercise. In the warmer months I enjoy getting up to a strong cup of coffee, perched on the deck taking in the early morning rays and Mother Nature's symphony. Growing tomatoes is my passion. I love nurturing my little garden by the sea. Mt. Baker is stunning at sunrise. I am enjoying kayaking given the sandstone beach is only 14 steps away with many isles to adventure. I am a strong believer and practitioner of sustainable lifestyle management. The natural outdoor setting provides an ideal catalyst for thoughtful introspection. Most small island people have a strong community knit, based on volunteerism that fosters a fantastic sustainable social network. This offers a great opportunity to "give back" something to the community that I live within.
Since retiring more thought has been given to enjoying life in the moment rather than being a part of some grand play. Laughter is great and I enjoy laughing at my self as well. Believe me in this world there is a lot to laugh about. What is just important is to share those moment with others.
I'm interested in spending time with those that are honest and lighthearted and don't sweat the small stuff. I am not a daily music buff but I do enjoy music, especially driving. All kinds of classical rock and from time to time some Golden oldies in reasonable volume. The flipside to Hotel California can be Knights in White Satin or Taking Care of Business.
If I have a pet peeve it would be people being loud on cell phones in public.
I like getting away, especially during the winter to a warmer clime. To me, meeting new people and experiencing new cultures develops an insightful appreciation for the world around us. Most of my lifelong travels have been as a single, and I feel that the partnering up concept is becoming more and more important; especially since I retired. Wherever I visit is usually a great experience, though, I always look forward to coming home. Home is home. I have no interest in living in the city again although I love the time I frequently spend In Sidney and/or Victoria. I prefer the slow lane.
