About Me
This will be a work in progress, as we all are.
I like to think I must be a bit of a different kind of a guy, cut from a slightly different cloth than the rest, otherwise I probably wouldn't be here: I'd have settled for something ordinary and pedestrian long ago. I generally know where I stand when it comes down to the bigger issues of my life, though life is too big to have it ALL figured out! I have passion for the things that have great meaning for me and there are things I won't give time to. I try to keep an even keel on the things in between. I'm told I have a youthful energy, can be boyish and a bit geeky too, but all in good ways I hope!
I am an outdoors lover who hikes, canoes, camps, skis, caves, but not always hardcore stuff in the far away spots. Teaching outdoor and environmental education as a profession allows me to spend most of my days in the type of place I'm happiest to be in, but there's a lot more to me than that. I've been to college, university and the school of life. My wide variety of interests include politics and current events, art, books (but rarely the current bestseller), love music (there's only two categories for music: good and bad, no matter what "type", it's either one or the other), movies (old, new, docs). I'm not huge into sports but I love lacrosse and like hockey. I'd rather play a sport than watch one. I have a good sense of humour that can sometimes be dark and sarcastic, but I do prefer to laugh with people rather than at them. I like the occasional scotch, or a nice shiraz. I work out regularly, but not fanatically. I am an active volunteer in a variety of enterprises. I consider myself loyal with a high sense of integrity, dedicated to family and close friends, creative and try to be wise. Though I can't see myself living in the city again, I do enjoy being close enough to it to visit regularly, I'm not a 'burber, more country/city mix, and I don't plan to always live where I do now. I'd like to take up dancing if I had the right partner. I'm not always going full tilt from one event to another, but it sometimes seems like it, that's when I enjoy the time to relax, re-charge and just veg out for a bit.
I'm looking for dating that could become more with the right person. She'll have some of the same interests as me but have her own tastes too. Hopefully she'd enjoy good conversation whether on light subjects or deep ones. If she teaches me to skate, then she'll be perfect. (there's a story there...)
More may come but I think that's a good start...
To me, the faves list is a "pending file"...If you're on mine, it's because I'm thinking about dropping you a note. When I do, I take you off, it doesn't mean I don't want to hear from you anymore...
First Date
It should always depend on the situation. Common interests, location, time of day, which day and time of year can all influence this. First meeting could be considered different than first date but could turn into one and the same. A first meeting could be simply a drink or two(alcohol or non) some conversation (hopefully good and enjoyable!) and perhaps a light activity. First date could be anything from an activity together, going to a live performance or gallery or the typical dinner date. I'm always open for your suggestions too!
