About Me
I live by public radio and I occasionally partake in red meat. I have an insatiable lust for profound ideas, which I find to be conspicuously absent in pop culture; and so I'm constantly on the lookout for good independent film, literature, masterful recordings of classical music, and interesting places to visit. I tend to eschew materialistic values, but I'm not naïve enough to think that one can do without all those dead presidents in the bank; and frankly, raising a family requires money.
I have a PhD in business, and two masters. I’m now a post-doc and before that, I used to teach Computer Science at the secondary and post-secondary levels. I find sharing ideas, either in a classroom, discussion group, or speaking publicly to be exhilarating. My politics are socially liberal and fiscally conservative. I’m generally a very optimistic person and I believe strongly in personal responsibility.
I would describe my spirituality as humanistic. I believe that humankind is progressing from anthropocentric and tribal forms of spiritual expression to more earth-centered and unitary ones. Some of my spiritual influences include James Allen, Ralph Waldo Emerson and Spinoza. I'm also a big fan of the structuralists like Goethe, Jung and Lévi-Strauss.
Traveling and experiencing other cultures is important to me. I lived in France for close to 4 years, and I speak French fluently. I’ve also traveled throughout Asia, including; India, China, and Japan. I love China, and I'm fascinated with Asian culture and cuisine -- my favorite cuisine is Vietnamese.
I enjoy reading, particularly non-fiction on contemporary issues and economics and technology and human values. I'm a healthy person, exercise frequently and have an active sporting life. I particularly enjoy golf, sailing, squash, and hiking.
I'm looking for a partner, someone I can trust and to whom I’m attracted both physically and spiritually; and also someone who is interested in raising a family. Also, like any successful partnership, the partners should be better off for having joined.
First Date
Evening date: We'd start out at a quiet restaurant where we could talk and get to know one another. Then we'd go see a good inde film. If it's not too late, we'd go out for a drink and talk about the film and whatever else.
Day date: (weather permitting) Take a walk in an arboretum or botanical gardens, have lunch outside and talk. If the weather conditions are inclement, maybe lunch and a museum or some other cultural activity, and talk.
