I think a first date should be on 'neutral territory'. A nice bar somewhere that u can meet at for the first time, in public so its a 'level playing field' ...
That way, from first conversations and impressions, you can both pretty quickly tell if there is at least initial attraction and interest. Then, if the 'vibe'is right, you can discuss and arrange a dinner date at a good restaurant with good food, good wine and good conversation.
