About Me
What I seek? A poet, an artist, a musician... in short a creative soul, a woman educated and intelligent, a woman who reads, loves music, loves to learn. I seek a kindred spirit... a bohemian, a woman who is non-traditional, one who can teach me things...oh, just as a wish, a woman who can beat me at Scrabble...

I like coffe houses, poetry readings, live music (there is a band in D called the Sugarcoats, man I dig those cats...), fires in the night, moonbeams, fireflies, flowers wild and those not so, a good word, a found talisman, a bound ribbon, island coffee, mountian tea, wild strawberries, toothy smiles, Castillian lisps, subtle puns, my left hand (it chords), the vieux carre, gumbo, Jack and Allen, Woody and Bob, gypsy violins, the Wolf (Chester Authur Burnett - my adopted and adapted grandpap), the feel of a guitar string, the wind when it howls, the rain, snow mornings, spice, Slyvia Plath ( god, was I ever born too late...that is one sexy woman)... exotic and creative food, black rum and few other odds and ends...(including an over abundance of elipsises...)

I love listening to music, all kinds. One of the great joys is finding a new sound. I grew up with folk music and the blues. I love thier authenticity...latest joy is the fado group Madredeus...it is spiritual...and some folk music from East Turkestan. (Like Tibet this country is occupied by the Chinese and has suffered unbelievable atrocities and executions of political and religous leaders... China is not good.)

I love reading, from cheap mysteries to real literature, biographies, history, science ( I am nuts for quantum physics), poetry, and philosophy. I have a goal to read at least one book by every winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, I am about 3/4 done. I am reading a book by the Hungarian author Kertesz and find him infintely intregueing. Last author before him was the Portugese author Jose Saramago, I can not get enough of this man's prose.

I love to travel. I have been to all but a couple of the continous 48 states. My favorite places are in the Southwest, the desert. Last fall I was lucky enough to spend a couple of days on the Navajo Reservation and in Canyon de Chelly... the mutton stew with the Begay's was great, but the views of the formations and ruins in the canyon took my breath away. I love day trips... this world holds many an unseen beauty... I travel to New York City every other week. I love that city, the buzz, the culture, the beat... At this moment I am reading Walt Whitman, who is one of the best NY poets. I love to read his poems about the city and then experience the same place myself.

I have lived all over since leaving college. Tanpa, New Orleans, Chicago, Atlanta, Puerto Rico, Kentucky and now wonderful Lake Erie. I love exploring the world, soaking in the local history, culture, food, music and people.

I work for an environmental engineering firm as a senior consultant. I am lucky to have a job I like and one that adds value to the world. It takes me regularly to New York and California and points in between (tonight I am in Napa Valley...sweet)

I am funny, gregarious, kind hearted, an animal lover, creative (I write poetry and paint). I have a dog and three cats. There are long stories behind each of them. I like a good laugh. I have been known to recite a few of my favorite poems around the fire (my all time fav is a mimic of Dylan Thomas reading a poem by WH Auden ... "the nightengales are sobbing in the orchards of our mothers, and hearts that we broke long ago have long been breaking others..." god, if only I could write that!

I love a good joke, can tell a few ( and even a claen one or two..I am slightly dyslexic...). I love to laugh, I smile most of the time. I know when to be serious. I enjoy comedy, but find coarse sophomoric humor tedious and chaffing. I prefer Oscar Wilde to Larry the Cable Guy.... but then ... "Why don't tigers eat clowns?..."

I am liberal in my politics. I have been blessed in my life and think as a society we should make sure that there is a bare minimum for all our fellow citizens. This means healthcare and education. Otherwise I think government should get out of proples lives, this means letting loving committed couples marry, regardless of thier chromosome makeup.

I am not religous, but think of myself as spiritual. I am agnostic about god, that is to say I have no "knowledge" and have yet to be blessed with "faith". I do think that there has to be as Aristotle said a "prime-mover". I stand in awe of the wonders of the universe, yet understand that Bishop Paley's argument from design is logically fallacious. I am respectful of others faith. I am a closet buddhist, I meditate, and strive to follow a spiritual path. I am very open to new aspects of spirituality, it is a learning that never stops. I love ritual and the sacred. I took a Gregorian Chant class in college, and found that to be the most wonderful experience...

I love board games, trivia games, cards.... Scrabble and cribbage are two of my favorites...I am not competitive ..much, just like the social interaction.

I am romantic. I appreciate the value of the small gesture, the flower, the gift, the card, the mail... (I have always loved getting something in the mail and so make it a part of my life to send letters, cards, post cards and such). Love is like a garden, there is wondeful healing to be found in the labors required to bring forth the natural goodness...

First Date
Oh, maybe a coffee at the Grind in Wyandotte and then a walk along the river...
