About Me
End tables and night stands in my house overflow with books I plan to read someday, when I can get around to them. Yet I go on buying more, on the rationale that books won't spoil; they'll keep till I'm ready to open the cover.
My tastes are eclectic: Dean Koontz, Diana Gabaldon, Norah Lofts, Agatha Christie, John Grisham, Anne Rivers Siddons, some biographies and nonfiction. Best to read with a hot cup of tea and some music playing softly in the background. Music from the likes of Andrew Lloyd Weber, or Enya, or Sarah Brightman; some classical stuff, lots of show tunes, easy listening.
I also enjoy live theatre, movies, street and craft fairs, and travel. Epcot and Disney World are two of my favorite spots on this earth. When I walk through those gates I feel a whole different atmosphere(despite the throng of humanity); I leave everything behind and simply enjoy the fun of the moment. I can't swim to save my life but I love walking the beach, soaking up the sun, sniffing in the salt air.
Due to the political situation during the last eight years, I've become a news junkie and my views have become quite liberal. Give me Keith Olbermann and Rachael Maddow! No, I don't think President Obama walks on water--but, by comparison to his predecessor, he probably comes close.
My passions are environmental causes and animal rights, both of which explain why I am a vegetarian. What's the difference between eating a cow or pig and eating your family pet? None; all are living, sentient beings who feel many of the same emotions that humans do--especially pain and suffering. There's already far too much of that in this world.
For the last five years I've worked as an administrative assistant (the pc term for "secretary") at a small church. That's my job, which I enjoy. My career is writing; I've published three books and am working on a fourth. In between I provide child care for my three-year-old grandson, who I will freely admit is a genius. At the very least an intellectual giant. And charming, too.
I'd like to meet a man with a sense of humor, who's honest and capable and compassionate. An animal-lover and a non-smoker, please. Oh, and if you could kill the occasional spider that finds its way into my house, that would be great.
First Date
First date. Scary. Sixteen again, with all the butterflies and uncertainties. I don't like first dates. How about second date, after some online conversations? That would mean getting to know each other, a face-to-face date involving some quiet coffee time (tea for me) together. Then maybe a movie like Star Trek or Angels and Demons!
