I'd be interested in making new friends and hopefully finding a companion to go out with who shares some interests in common. I would like to meet a kind and compassionate man with a gentle nature. I would like to take things very slowly at first and get to know the real person. It is important that he is reasonably intelligent and it would be lovely if he had an interest in puzzles. I'm an inveterate crossword addict and have always had an interest in anything like that with a bit of a challenge. (My friend would like to note that I can polish off an Aurocaria cryptic crossword in half an hour and she is truly impressed!)

My ability and determination to figure things out came in useful when I was in the RAF signals in the 1950s. I loved being in the RAF and met many wonderful people there. It was an exciting time in my life. I was fortunate enough to be chosen to march in the Rememberance Service in the Royal Albert Hall at that time which I'll always remember with pride. I'd be particularly interested to hear from anyone who was in the RAF and especially those based in Ruislip, Haydock, Compton Bassett or Northern Ireland.

Apart from crosswords, I am also interested in cooking and gardening. I like listening to some music too and enjoy writing. I am currently working on stories and intend to try a novel. I do have family close by and spend some time with them. It would be lovely to get out and about with a friend though and share some special times.

It's hard to describe myself but I think I can say that I am patient, kind, intelligent and have led an interesting and sometimes difficult life. I have lived in many parts of the country and done a variety of jobs, working as a manager, instructor and signals operator in the RAF, voluntary DJ in RAF at Compton Bassett, office worker, cook, football pools clerk at Birkenhead (where I was in the choir), farm worker, highly-skilled jacquard weaver, amongst other things - all fascinating experiences.

Because I live in the countryside and do not have a car myself, any new friend would need transport. My health isn't perfect, but then nobody's perfect.
