About Me
What I'm doing:
Currently resuming study at Hornsby TAFE (Multimedia), will be seriously studying next year.
What I want:
Not sure. I'd like to meet someone for friendship and possibly more, but not less. I'd love to hang out in someone's company and see a bit of their world. Sharing a walk would be good too!
Money:
I'll be surviving on limited funds until the end of my course, most likely... I used to work in a call centre doing tech support for Bigpond Broadband, and I'd have to say I'd rather have no money than no self respect. That said, it'd be good to be able to make some money out of my passions, even though theoretically I'm a communist and am supposed to be opposed to the whole profit concept! I think Communism, like Utopia, is an ideal, not a real situation. I loathe the way corporations buy governments though, I think getting rid of government "donations" would be a very good idea.
I think a lot about money. I love the clash between capitalism and socialism, between open source and proprietary, copyleft and copyright. I think we need balance.
Copyright:
I hate the way we sign up to the American laws blindly, so that Australians can be stolen from here and sent to American jails, for breaking laws that violate the American Constitution in the first place. I think Disney and Sonny Bono represent corruption of the law dressed up as morality. Do you know distribution companies originally argued that artists shouldn't be paid royalties, as the cost of distribution was the only significant one? Now they claim artists will starve if the laws change! If there was a Pirate Party here, I'd vote for it. I don't believe copyrights and patents should be abolished, but reformed to the former sane levels would be reasonable.
Books:
For me, key books are "Catch-22" and Stephen Donaldsons' Thomas Covenant work. (his latest books are sitting on my shelf unread, making me feel guilty, but I'll get to reading them one day I hope) I love science fiction and often lose myself in day dreamed plotlines. I love The Culture series, Charles Stross'work, stuff that examines philosophical ideas as well as having things go boom.
Animation:
I want to make my own movie. This took a hit when I was injured but I'm clawing my way back. There was a woman in my course who had had a brain aneurism and was in a coma, which puts my problems in perspective.
Neuralgia (avoid!):
I've lost and I've gained as a result of being in severe pain, and being ping-ponged around in the medical system. For a long time I was misdiagnosed, and it was an incredible piece of luck that I met a decent doctor one night at Hornsby Hospital emergency centre. I found out a nerve cluster was misfiring, causing agony in strange parts of my face. It's easily treated once identified; but it took two years before I found someone who got it right.
First Date
Is interstellar travel out of the question? Then a coffee would be nice. My idea of an ideal first date is the sort that leads to a second, whether it be romantic or platonic. I'd like to get to know someone, and stretching my legs in company would be nice!
