About Me
Hi. I'm Jonathan aka Johnny or deep Jon. I’m a medical student at Pitt whose been in Pittsburgh since August of 08. Needless to say I spend a lot of time on schoolwork. Worse still my social circle is basically all fellow grad students. Anyway I'm here because I've decided I'm not going to sh-t where I sleep. Anyway online dating is great--I mean who wouldn't want to judge tons of people he's never met?
So now to get back to the shameless self promotion. So what do I do when I'm not either in the hospital or studying? Hmm, catching up on sleep? Ok that's a gross exaggeration. I play racquetball, I'm quite practiced at the art of hanging out with my best friend, recently I've tried a bit of social situation experimentation--recently I shaved my head and now I find that new people tend to be ever so slightly scared of me. Also that's the complete opposite of what I'm used to.
Wait, wait don't leave! I'm cool--believe me! I can walk on water. Err ok real things ... I can talk way faster than I think! A good friend and I are convinced our lives could be some combination of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Seinfeld. Also I've been told I have a sarcastic wit by a lot of people. I think that's a good description of the superficial me.
So who am I? I'd say I'm still finding out. I can be both coldly logical and burningly emotional; I can be both distant and intensely loyal. I'd say I'm very, very responsible--to the point of being boring sometimes. Luckily I've made a few new friends in Pittsburgh who are helping me explore my crazier side--whether that is crazy roadtrips to nowhere or just taking small dumb risks or planning big crazy things that may or may not happen. I'd say I'm shy around new people but will eventually warm up--and then I'm pretty zany.
Books - maybe L'Etranger by Camus. Recently read Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut. I've read my share of long autobiographies (Bill Clinton's and Alan Greenspan's recently). You know a book is beloved if it's completely falling a apart. My old copy of Ender's Game is just like that. It was recommended to me when i was in elementary school and I've still got it somewhere. I'm a fan of Mark Twain too--the most recent play I've seen is "is He Dead?". Also let me set the record straight that I'm not a big play goer I just get roped into going to them sometimes and some are definitely worth going to. I've spent a lot of time reading medical books. They've ruined me for other reading. Currently my free-time reading is a text on echocardiography.
Movies - Anything by Akira Kurosawa or Stanley Kubrick. Blade Runner. Conan the Barbarian. Garden State. Bringing Out the Dead. Adaptation. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
TV - Red Dwarf, Arrested Development, (sadly discovered this after FOX canceled it, might buy DVD but will see movie if it happens) Sunny in Philadelphia. I'm also a huge fan of the Simpsons. Recently Flight of the Conchords and Seinfeld.
Music - I'll listen to almost anything--although this one girl who loved 80s hairbands and heavy metal got me really sick of most 80s music--so not quite anything. Also I can never remember lyrics. I think I appreciate or enjoy music in an atypical way.
Food - One recent food project was Guacamole. Bought some avocados and went for it. Sadly I forgot to get cilantro so it wasn't quite right. However it's such a quick meal I'm sure I'll make it again.
First Date
You show up and see me wave from over in the middle of the coffee shop. I'm sitting with Dwayne, the californian, who I just met while ordering my coffee. After giving us his life story, Dwayne bids us his farewell. In the coffee shop, You and I get to know each other amidst the intoxicating smell of caffeine and the constant stream of umbrella and rain jacket wielding foot traffic. I notice that in the sky amidst the heavy grey clouds there exists a double rainbow. I make some remark about this being analogous to life in general. You nervously laugh and bluntly emote that you were laughing at me not with me. You then reveal a bit more of your own peculiarities and peccadilloes.
After a while we decide that we are each as equally as awesome as each other. We notice that the rain has stopped and decide to stroll outside. Since we're in Oakland in the fall, I suggest we walk towards the not-quite-green-anymore Schenley park. The piter pater of undergrads scurrying about recedes into a sea of yellows and reds.
After some walking, chatting and laughing we happen upon a playground--I never knew why they put that playground in the middle of Schenley park. I suggest we play on the swings and relive the carefree moments of our preschool years. After showing the 5 year olds how to really swing we head off on our way.
As we're heading towards our parked cars we hit upon the idea of heading to the movies. You suggest a boring chick flick. I suggest a scary horror movie. We settle for a comedy and spend the next hour and a half laughing like idiots--although I make an effort to control my laughter at the sexist jokes. At one point the elderly gentleman sitting near the front row tells us to quite down because we are laughing too loud. Somewhere near the halfway mark of the movie you start thinking that I'm a pretty good guy, not to mention cute and you move around a bit and stop with your head resting on my shoulder--smooth move, totally didn't see it coming. In reply to this i put my arm around you and we finish watching the movie in that awfully cliche position enjoying every second of it.
After the movie we reminisce about the funniest scenes while we walk towards the garage. The air is quite chilly. I offer you my jacket which you gladly take and I laugh when we see your hands not being able to reach out of the sleeves.
Once we get to our cars there is a brief, awkward silence. I tell you that i had a great time and would like to see you again to which you reply that you would love to. I walk up, kiss you on the cheek and then walk off too my car leaving you with a dizzy feeling coupled with butterflies in your stomach.
If you got this far please feel free to leave me a message even if it is only to say I can't believe I read such a long profile you longwinded SOB! This is somewhat of an experiment on profile length.
