About Me
Work has allowed to do some traveling. My last bit was in Poland in February.
A collaborator and I walked around old Gdansk and Torun. For the latter, we got to visit Copernicus' home on his birthday; it seemed so interesting to me that he accomplished what he did with the instruments he had.
At the moment, am doing the work of your typical university faculty: research, teaching, sit on committees and such. Over time, my goals are to go into a phase where I will be mostly writing books and papers. At the moment, I am building a book out of my graduate courses. I hope to continue this well into my retirement.. not soon yet.
Every day, I meditate for about 30 minute and do a one hour workout routine at gym. Aside from making me healthier and saner, it has developed my spiritual interests. There are a lot of Buddhist books on my shelf and I occasionally even read them, and I look at Western religious sources, too. I belong to my local Unitarian Universalist fellowship, but am certainly not religious in the usual sense.
My day-to-day life revolves around a 15-year-old son I am raising by myself and a daughter away at university in Canada. I also try to get involved some local politics. I have more books than bookshelf space, am constantly reading something, and have a long wish list of books to read.
I like to hike if there is a someone to go with.
Most of my musical tastes are conventional, but open. I like classic rock and roll (The Band, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, The Grateful Dead, The Beatles, the Stones etc), but enjoy some of the new bands, too (e.g. Green Day). Had a great time at a jazz club in London last week listening to one singer's tribute to Billie Holiday, another's to Sarah Vaughn. But I can enjoy a classical concert and even some rap.
First Date
For me, a first meeting should just be some coffee and a lot of talking. I would want to get a sense of you and give you a sense of me.
A first real date would be a nice dinner at a favorite ethnic restaurant followed by going
to see some good theater then maybe drinks and a lot of talking. Other possible activities
are going to see a good band perhaps with dancing, or seeing a really good movie.
