About Me
I'd love to develop a more satisfying social life than I've been able to since moving to southwest Florida. Is anyone out there interested in a smart, low-maintenance, respectful relationship based on friendship? I carry less baggage than most, and I'd really enjoy having someone who's young-at-heart to laugh with and savor.
Here is a little information about me...
One of the things that challenges me, always, is finding enough time for all the reading I want to do. A pile of unread books beckons me at all times. Some of my recent favorites are "1776," "An Inconvenient Truth," "Angels & Demons," "Crashing Through," Carl Sagan's "Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors" and Lance Armstrong's "It's Not About the Bike." I spend a chunk of each day on the newspaper, without fail. One of my simple pleasures is reading the newspaper while enjoying a leisurely lunch. My iPod is usually a part of my newspaper time, as well.
I like to listen to many kinds of music. Some of my favorite artists are The Corrs, Shania Twain, The Goo Goo Dolls, Eagles, The Moody Blues and Sting. My favorite classical work is Handel's "Water Music." All of those, and much more, comprise the 4000 songs on my iPod. It also contains audiobooks, TV shows, photos and podcasts. I love it! It's one of the greatest inventions ever.
I enjoy the symphony, "Phantom of the Opera," and art and science museums. I've spent at least a full day at all of these major museums: The Getty Museum in LA, The National Gallery in DC, The Institute of Arts and Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, The Art Institute in Chicago, The Metropolitan Museum of Art in NY, The National Gallery in London and The Louvre in Paris. For many years, I was a member of the Science Museum of Minnesota in St. Paul. It's one of the leading science education centers in the world.
I grew up in Minnesota, where you'll still find my Mom and seven of my eight brothers. The other brother lives in Washington DC, where I frequently visit because I have a convenient place to stay right by the airport, there are loads of interesting things to see and do, and it has terrific public transportation. The second week in August, I'm going to Detroit to work for a client, and for a three-game series between the Detroit Tigers and my Minnesota Twins. The entire family is fanatic about the Twins!
I graduated from St. John's University in Minnesota with a BA in Mathematics and a lot of emphasis on Computer Science. People who have experienced St. John's consider it a magical place. It's one of the most highly regarded liberal arts universities in America. I've also had some graduate level studies at The University of Minnesota and Winona State University.
I spent a few years in the restaurant business, including working my way from busboy to General Manager of a Perkins restaurant. I've worked for Marriott International and Hyatt Hotels. For many years, I did freelance computer consulting for small business and home office users in Minneapolis. I had about one hundred clients, but unfortunately I had to leave them behind when I finally decided to come here where the sun shines. I haven't yet found enough business to keep me going here (22 clients, so far), so until being laid off due to the recession, I also worked as Golf Shop Coordinator at the number one golf resort in Florida, Tiburon (Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort), here in Naples. Recently, I've also been selling computers and studying investing.
I love golf! One of the great experiences of my life was traveling to Scotland for the 2005 British Open won by Tiger Woods. I also spent time in London and Paris while surviving 1500 miles driving ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ROAD!
I love to travel, and do so as often as possible. I've traveled with girlfriends, with guy friends, with groups, and by myself. I've been to 48 states, Hawaii three times, Alaska, Mexico three times... and I'm just getting started. I'd love to do more SCUBA diving, I'm into photography and bicycling, and I'd love to learn how to sail.
The main thing to know about me is that I'm the youngest 55-year-old you'll ever meet... really! THE YOUNGEST 55-YEAR-OLD YOU'LL EVER MEET!
I also tend to march to the sound of that different drummer they talk about...
Thanks for visiting!
