About Me
UPDATE WOW!!!!
Hello There,
Oh Sweet Jesus!!! My how time flies….a lady asked me where my recent pictures were, (the most recent was the jump photo dated Oct 2008)….I thought, (running to the mirror) “My God!!! does she think the ravages of 13 months have left me so grotesque as to frighten children and small animals??...so I snapped a couple more….(new and improved!!...) wasn’t sure about the background…perhaps coyly cavorting amongst the shrubbery???....maybe a bright red Speedo and pumps or a Carmen Miranda thing with half a truck load of California’s finest balanced on my head….oh well!!!....just went with the black t-shirt and jeans thingy.
Now, a little about me. (Just a little…)
Goals and Aspirations: Most of the things I have wanted to do in life have already been done. I have lived a very blessed and rebellious existence with more good fortune than a body should have. I have been places and seen and done things that most people will never dream of being, seeing or doing. From service in the military and some foreign travel to travel around North America via motorcycle, hitchhiking, driving and generally bumming around. There are moments when during the darkest hours of the night I begin to count my blessings and all the good things in my life and find myself still counting as the sun comes up, it’s been a good ride and it’s only half over. I still have many things left to do.
My occupations have ranged from minor management to equipment operation, soldiering, truck driving, consulting, web design and owning a small business. Most of my work is seasonal so multiple jobs during the year is not unusual. As far as abilities are concerned there is nothing I cannot do and most things I have attempted turn out very well.
Now, in my middle age, I am looking towards extensive global travel and "getting out" more often. Several years ago I think I had a "midlife crisis" so I had a choice: I could do the usual and go out and buy a pail of Viagra and a red sports car and then start cruising the local high school for a date or I could buy a bicycle and quit smoking, after a brief moment I decided that the bicycle/smoking thing would be best, besides I haven't reached the "Viagra" stage of my life yet. So I sold my truck and scaled my life back and was very pleased at the change that took place over the past couple of years. Unfortunately I purchased another vehicle and with reduced bicycle usage I packed on a couple of extra pounds. But its all good, I haven't reached the point where I need a wide-load sign and a pilot-car escort when I go out....( I wouldn't mind dating a woman who still smoked but lets get busy with the mouthwash before we start smooching !!)
I have a firm, not fanatical, belief in God but rarely (never) darken the doors of a church as "my hypocrisy knows no bounds".
I love music almost all music ( with the exception of the "I hate Whitey" style of rap and hip-hop), and listen to Moby, Tangerine Dream, Massive Attack, Sigur Ros, Death in Vegas, Mike Oldfield, Boards of Canada, Conjure One, The Crystal Method, M83,INXS, Bruce Hornsby, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, Led Zepplin, Sting, Coldplay, Tina Turner, Cher, Paolo Conte, Zuccerro, Rachid Taha, Van Halen, Def Leppard, Cheb Mami,Pink Floyd, Roger Waters, Natacha Atlas. See, I told you....I really enjoy all types of music. Music is the language of Life and the lubrication of the Soul.
I enjoy movies with a message, such as Saving Private Ryan, Magnolia, Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, The Green Mile, Shawshank Redemption, Vanilla Sky, Falling Down, The Ghost and The Darkness, Lost in Translation, Heat, Thief, Kingdom of Heaven. Most documentaries: Grizzly Man, Solo (about the kayaker Andrew McAuley), Darwin’s Nightmare, Young Victoria, and almost anything from the medieval period.
I love to cook and from all accounts I am not that bad at it either...never had anyone drop dead from my dinners...at least not before they hit the door. I love all kinds of food like curries, rice dishes, a good thick grilled steak with a glass of red wine, fresh baked bread, Italian dishes, a mess of perogies smothered in sour cream, .....just about anything...oh yeah...greek food like lamb and beef souvlaki with roast potatoes....oh yeah and Mexican(Latin) food but not so heavily spiced that my nether regions are referred to as the "burning ring of fire".
I do like a good drink,..Bombay Gin with tonic and lemon, a good French brandy, a peaty single malt scotch whisky, beer occasionally and red and white wine, I really dislike like snotty people who go into convulsions if you drink white wine with spaghetti or a red wine with a chicken breast....so sometimes just to make the waiters ass twitch I will order a good white wine with my steak.....wheeeeeee!!!!!
My dress is casual but I am considering leaning towards a more formal style of dress lately. I would enjoy the company of a woman who loved a dress and heels but was equally at home in jeans and a t-shirt. The classic white blouse with black skirt is stunning.
I am attracted to a woman who enjoys being a woman. A woman for whom feminine grace, beauty, tenderness and charm are gifts to be celebrated and not some burdensome millstone to be complained about daily. I am a traditional man and remain unapologetically chivalrous.
I am not wild about obesity or sloppiness. I myself have a very acute sense of personal hygiene and expect the same. I don't object to body odor after a days work or a workout but not washing or brushing the teeth for days is a little too much "atmosphere" for me......I always get nasty with a bar of soap and a toothbrush at least twice a day.....and I am clean shaven....
I am not interested in people who are still in "recovery" from their childhoods or former relationships. I am interested in a woman who is generally happy with herself and her life and if she is unhappy is at least working actively to change those portions of her life or person that are lacking. In other words....in lay terms "sh*t happens"...fix it, get over it and move on.
I don't really have a perfect woman in mind. Ethnicity is not important as some of the most spectacularly beautiful women, inside and out, come from the furthest reaches of the globe. Age is important, somewhere between a very mature 35 year old or a young 55 year old (young women don't interest me as not only am I allergic to spandex but I lost my zest for bubblegum and soda-pop years ago). Physical fitness is important. Tasteful dress and attire is important, I am not impressed with massive displays of cleavage or painted on jeans...in other words less is more. Pride in one's self is important but not to point of shouting it from the rooftops. Dealing with adversity head on with grit teeth is important, whining about Life's bumps is difficult to put up with. In short, a classic "good woman".
First Date
An afternoon cycling in the park, dinner out with a movie, roller-skating at the rollerdrome with a hotdog and a beer (I haven't rollerskated in years so its liable to be a hilarious and certainly bruising experience), an evening at home with a dinner (the result of mutual effort)....teaching me to ballroom dance or learning together, a picnic with a swim in a river or a lake followed with brandy and a roaring campfire, cooking fish we caught over a campfire with beers and corn-on-the-cob, wrapped in blankets on the edge of a lake in September munching on crusty buns with cream cheese and oysters, (these are most likely second or third dates)
