About Me
I'm a second year graduate student in pure mathematics at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. I'm so hoping to finish my Master's this fall, take both GREs and begin applying to PHD programs-primarily Columbia, Princeton and NYU.
I'm a third generation Italian American from Brooklyn and d*mn proud of it. I'm a greaseball with an education.LOL Seriously, though-that's who I am. I think humans will finally evolve when we can accept our diversity is a postive, not a negative. My Religion:I'll never understand reasonably intelligent people who believe in invisible magical beings. How can they look at this world and thier lives and believe? HOW?!? I just don't get it, I don't. Faith just makes no sense to me in this life.my education:I did a double major in mathematics and biochemistry at Queens College of The City University Of New York before entering the MA program in pure mathematics there. I hope to go to Columbia or Princeton for a PHD, but a lot has to break right for me over the next year.favorite things:What music do I like?Right now, I'm partial to Matchbox 20, The Fray, Nickelback, Colbie Callie, Beyonce and Kelly Clarkson. Some of my favorite films of all time: "Unforgiven", "Minority Report", "Do The Right Thing", "Shrek"-really too many to name.
Last read:I love reading blogs online by fellow academics-I LOVE both Peter Woit's and Tom Gowers' blogs. Both highly opinionated and wonderful scholars.
my pets:I LOVE cats-they're so smart and independent.(Of course, that's why you want to strangle them sometimes.) Dogs hate me. Otherwise, I can't really get into pets that are too mindless to relate to me. A bird or a fish to me is dinner, not a pet.
About my life and what I'm looking for:Forgive the pic. Hope it doesn't crack anyone's mirror that happens to glance in this direction. This is one of the reasons I'm still hoping for a beauty queen wife-she'll HAVE to be for my kids to have a prayer of looking human.I'm a second year graduate student in pure mathematics at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. I'm so hoping to finish my Master's this fall and begin applying to PHD programs-primarily Columbia, Princeton and NYU.
The Girl Of My Dreams: Imagine a 6 foot tall Jessica Alba, Beyonce or Catherine Heigl (yeah, I'm somewhat flexible on looks) with 42DDs, a matching hourglass figure and long, long legs-and a powerful intellect, fiery spirit and compassionate heart to match her physical prowess. THAT'S really what matters to me most in this Ideal: that's she's as impressive as a PERSON as she is as a Goddess. Don't get me wrong, she doesn't have to be perfect-I'm ANYTHING but. But she does have to believe in a personal code-and more importantly, LIVE by those rules. And NOT quote scripture to me. Religon has nothing to do with morality. You CAN be religious, but it should be completely irrelevant to your moral system. Ethics need to come from the heart and mind processing one's life experience. If you need a book of fairy tales to tell you right from wrong, you're incapable of feeling or understanding either. PERIOD. Don't get the impression I'm shallow-which would be kind of funny given what I look like.LOL But-the thought of dating and marrying a beauty queen with a heart, mind and soul is a dream I haven't given up on yet. Problem is I'd probably have to create her in a laboratory and program her to love me.Right now,I'm looking to build a relationship slowly,no rush. Friends evolving further is how to best describe what I want. But I AM still hopeful for that girl that lights the dark cave in my life.I didn't give up on that yet.Guess the best way to describe my goals here is to begin something good and play it by ear. Sounds like a plan, don't you think?Oh, and my friends think I'm nuts because I love hieght on a woman. But I do-it just turns me on. Drink your milk and eat your veggies, girls, so you can growwwwww.LOL
I spent a lot of years (don't ask, I don't want to ruin this first impression with a sob story) keeping my father alive from his prostate cancer after my 3 brothers all ran for thier lives. As a result, took me awhile to find out what I wanted to do with my life.( I don't say what I want to be when I grow up-I have no intention of ever doing that!) After premed, chemistry, physical chemistry and biochemistry, I was seduced into pure mathematics and never looked back. Mathematicians are sorcerers. But instead of tea leaves, toadstools, phoenix feathers, polyjuice potions and eye of newt, we conjure with Lebesgue measures, noncommutative rings, differentible manifolds, Fourier transforms, deformation algebras and power series. We read the Book of Nature and if we ask it questions correctly, it shares the most awesome of secrets with us. I hope to begin my first research this summer on additive number theory based on the work of our resident number theory guru, Melvyn Nathanson.
Other interests: movies, science fiction, and comic books. YES, superhero comic books, I still love them after all these years. My dad brought me home a HULK comic book when I was 6 years old and I never looked back. I once had a sizeable collection(8 boxes). They were sacrificed like so much else in the wake of my father's death 2 years ago. But I still read them online and keep up with my favorites.Personal Summary: I'm a cynic and an athiest. I have a very brusque manner and a lively, sarcastic sense of humor.Me being so honest and open sometimes makes for some painful moments.I also have a temper, especially when I'm passionate about something. Not a violent temper, but an acid, ruthless tongue. (Well,I HAVE been knowm to attack the occasional piece of furniture, but that's as far as it goes.) But for those who can deal-it ALSO means when I reach out with my heart and try and comfort someone or help,I MEAN IT and there won't be any wondering if I have some hidden agenda. That's a good trade off, don't you think? Humans generally suck and some suck less the others. That's the best we can all hope for.
"Then why don't you give up?" I've thought about it many times. Still do. But I don't. Why? I WILL tell you the main reason because it's one that shocks most people and leaves them scratching thier heads.I don't give up because God doesn't exist and there is no cosmic order to life, it's completely random and meaningless. There's an ORDER to things-but no higher purpose."HUH?!? That's a reason to not give up?!?"
BECAUSE IT MEANS THAT ANYTHING'S POSSIBLE. ANYTHING. THE ONLY WAY SOMETHING BECOMES IMPOSSIBLE IS IF WE DON'T TRY.
