6 am the clock ticks
i open the blinds to a hazy morning
the tip of the house across from me is tinted with sunrise

i sit in an old rocking chair
my body wrapped in an oversized robe
underneath is my bare soul

i paint my nails
rub moisturizer on my rough knees
think about my past present and future
thru my thick rimmed glasses i see the sunrise growing

the impending day is greeted with a catlike stretch and a hasty yawn
i close my eyes and pretend ive raced back into my bedsheets
wrapped in slumber
warm comfort kissing me

a disguised smile lurk on my lips
sip of creamy coffee drips
i taste the sweetness of the sugar
it spoils my hunger

silence.... emptiness... no light but the sunrise
such strangeness is this quiet seclusion
if i walk out the door to greet the world
is it like walking into heaven after death?
greeting those waiting for me

I dress, race out the door, beat the ticking clock
