I believe that friendship is the foundation of any relationship. It seems that today people treat relationships like a box of Kraft Mac & Cheese, add water, stir, eat and its done. Like the junk in the blue box, it may seem satisfying in the short term but in the long term, it does not sustain.

Today is the first day of 2009 and I just finished watching "The Last Lecture." I have always said that cancer is a great teacher because it reminds you of what is REALLY important in life. "If you lead your life the right way, your dreams will come to you."

I am a widow who was happily married for 15 years and so knows what it takes to have a good, solid, loving marriage. I do not carry a lot of emotional baggage and I believe in commitment, in working to keep a relationship happy and satisfying for both. I believe in life-long romance and I believe that we should all try to leave this world a little better when we leave than when we entered. To this end I am politically active and engaged. I have a good relationship with my maker and good relationship with my family and friends. In short, I am emotionally healthy and ready to find that someone special to share my life and my adventures.

Please have time for a relationship- if you are a total work-a-holic we are probably ill-suited since I seek someone who has more balance in his life. I do not need to be at the very top of your list but I deserve better than being low on the priority list. A relationship is like a garden; it needs time and attention to flourish. While I do not have children of my own, I am very involved with the lives of my nieces and nephews. My 14 year old niece Heather cut her teeth on my heart and is an important part of my life. I have been known to drive 5 1/2 hours to attend one of her concerts or events. I taught Pre-K and Kindergarten for 18 years and now teach at the university level so from teens to tots, I easily connect with children.

You have to have a healthy ego to engage in this process and I do not take a "we are not suited" or I recently started seeing someone" as a personal rejection.
