About Me
To get things started, some random facts about me: 1) I have lederhosen and know how to use them. 2) I love: dogs, travel, photography. Putting the first three together, I've been producing an annual calendar of dogs from around the world for my friends. 3) I just MIGHT be a coffee addict. I've been known to lovingly polish my espresso machine. ;) In a special fit of ridiculousness, I'm considering a trip to Chicago for a barista course. 4) My first word was lamp. Yes, as in the thing that consumes electricity and makes light. So, yeah, my parents realized at an early age that they had created a geek. 5) I'm hoping to get a European passport and dual-citizenship this year.
With the randomness out of the way: I'm 31, and work as a senior research and development engineer for a German car company. I'm a little conflicted on the inside: part of me wants to dominate the business and technology world, and the other half wants to be a traveling/backpacking bum. I may have recently found the right balance (hint: it involves a lot of last-minute hare-brained backpacking trips when work's least expecting them). I just returned from a 2 year period of "commuting" to Germany -- that's 6 months there, then 6 months here, and repeat. It's quite an exciting lifestyle to pack up every 6 months, but it also changed me into a much more self-sufficient, adventure-seeking, confident person. Now that I'm back in San Francisco, I'm trying to set up more of a long-term life. For the time-being, this will involve unpacking furniture from my storage unit, but I'd like it to also include meeting some really fun, cool, and like-minded people for adventure and intrigue.
For fun: I love to bike (San Francisco makes that kind of automatically exciting by providing a lot of cars to dodge), go out and enjoy the nightlife, sample the city's restaurants, and soak up that San Francisco je ne sais quois. I have a pilot's license, but haven't had time to use it for the past few years. There's really nothing like the view over Northern California from 5500 feet on a clear, starlit night.
While I work for "the man" at the moment, my career ambition is to create something new. I worked on plug-in hybrid vehicles for a long time in grad school, and hope to get back into green tech. Ultimately, I'd like to serve as CTO for a company I help start. Or an astronaut. That'd be pretty swell, too.
Since it seems to be the great common language of online profiles, here are a few of my fav TV shows: Arrested Development (perhaps THE most awesome show in the history of television), The Office, Mad Men, Weeds, and (I'm going to go ahead and admit it) True Blood.
I'm looking for somebody open-minded and laid back -- somebody who'd equally enjoy an epic night out or staying home and watching a movie over wine. A complimentary sense of humor is soooooo important (laughter fixes the world's problems), so if we can't watch The Daily Show together, we might not get along. ;) If you daydream about year-long round-the-world backpacking trips, love dogs, would rather take 15 trips in coach class than 3 in business, laugh at the ridiculous things in life rather than get angry, and are energized by uncertainty in life, send me a message. Let's plan an adventure!
First Date
Nightlife at the California Academy of Sciences... There's a bit of everything: food, drinks, great music, a tropical rainforest, and plenty of science to talk about. Nightlife's a great thing to share with friends -- so if there's no chemistry, it's still a fun night out!
or.... a coffee date. Always safe. And there's coffee, so it can't be ALL bad.
PilotChris78 has 2 roses that can be sent.
