About Me
So apparently they changed the horoscope so that I am no longer a Leo. Welp. -_-
I am a 24-year-old cinema student and Lead Sales Clerk at a tourist site in San Francisco. This is my hometown, born and raised, and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else (but of COURSE I want to travel!). I work and go to school full-time, so while I am busy I still manage to go out and have fun with friends (North Beach is my fave). I want to be a screenwriter and film editor in the industry.
I have learned Japanese for the past five years off and on due to my love of Japanese culture and desire to visit one day. I hope at some point to live there long enough to become fluent. These textbooks can only get me so far.
I love reading, writing, playing video games, procrastinating, and drinking. My favorite beer is Guinness. Everything else is alcoholic water to me. If you drink anything else or nothing at all, that's fine. I won't hold it against you. :)
I love photography. I own a few Minolta film cameras and a Kodak point and shoot. I've worked in a darkroom before and have some mattes that I've made for school, but I haven't been able to do any of that stuff in years.
I love Radiohead, Coldplay, Creed, Incubus, The Shins, DJ Tiesto, Daft Punk, and Prince, so alternative rock and techno are my favorites right now. I also love Utada Hikaru, a Japanese pop singer. But I plan on getting back into hip hop like I used to be in high school. I still need to check out Foo Fighters, Maroon 5, and other stuff people have recommended. Any recommendations on your end would be greatly appreciated. Amoeba is like the Mecca of music stores for me.
I prefer to watch comedies and drama over anything. My favorite film is Cinderella Man, with Lost in Translation a close second. Away We Go is another fantastic film, if you want further insight into my movie tastes. Deadpan comedies are the best, awkward silences and all, but outrageous stuff like Bruno and The Hangover get me as well from time to time. My favorite TV shows are Burn Notice, Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Family Guy, The 4400, Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, Law & Order (especially SVU), and Battlestar Gallactica.
I have a gigantic collection of over 500 movies on DVD, from contemporary to Charlie Chaplin and everything in between (my favorite old film is Casablanca), but they're all in boxes in my garage since I don't have a bookcase yet. I need to go to Ikea. As a side note, I used to be an "inventory control specialist" (read: stockboy) at Pottery Barn, the Ikea for rich people. I suggest Ikea instead. :)
My favorite authors are Dan Brown, Walter Mosley, Philip K.****[they bleeped his last name but I think you know who this is], Kurt Vonnegut, and Henrik Ibsen (playwright). One of my favorite books is Catcher in the Rye. I'm currently reading You Shall Know Our Velocity, written by Dave Eggers, who co-wrote Away We Go, which I mentioned above. A great book.
I love making movies as much as I do watching them. My friends and I at SFSU work on movies together several times a year, helping bring each other's scripts to life. I have a VERY modest editing rig at home, meaning an old Powerbook with Final Cut Express on it. Good enough for now; it's done right by me so far. Check my youtube (username ken72385) if you want to see the school work I have done.
I think A LOT, usually about movie ideas and random funny stuff, which causes me to chuckle to myself. Apparently people at work say I'm "cheezin'" all the time. I like cheese. Especially pepper jack and cheddar. I also like pizza. It's the best food for soaking up Guinness. I hear Guinness is darker and in bigger portions in Europe. I would like to go to Europe. I can probably write random crap like this all day. :)
I would prefer a girl who's into movies, filmmaking, photography and videogames like I am, but that's hardly a requirement. I think it's fine for two people who like each other to have separate interests, so long as they respect each other's hobbies.
I'm agnostic but I respect all religions, so as long as you can respect my lack of one things should be fine.
Hopefully you'll live either in the city or at the very least no further than SFO/San Bruno, San Rafael or Oakland (basically anywhere that the BART or some other bus can transport me within a reasonable amount of time).
Race and looks don't have any bearing with me. As long as you're nice things can work between us. I honestly have seen very few women in my life that I would say are "ugly." I'm sure most people would argue that I just have low standards, but I think I simply don't have a problem seeing the beauty in someone. Why women need to wear so much makeup is beyond me.
And as long as there are no crazy ex-boyfriends or adam's apples involved, I'm game. Hope to talk to you soon.
First Date
I think a nice walk through either Japantown, Stonestown Galleria, Westfield Mall, Pier 39 or Fisherman's Wharf while we chat, eat, play and get to know each other would be an ideal first date. If you have your own ideas, by all means share them. :)
