My name's J.D. I graduated from Muhlenberg College in 2008, and I originally come from Plainview, Long Island, NY. I moved to Chicago a year ago (I live in Lakeview, on Lakeshore), and I'm currently attending DePaul University for my Phd in Philosophy. I would describe myself as sensitive and intellectual, and I have a pretty sarcastic sense of humor. At first I usually come across as shy, but I become much more open the better I get to know someone. I'm very passionate about my studies and would like to find someone who values academics as much as I do. Some people find my career and interests to be intimidating, but I think I'm far from it - I'm very self-deprecating. I'm also passionate about literature and film, and I love dogs (I really miss my Silky Terrier). I'm pretty active - I go to the gym as often as I can (though grad school has certainly encroached on my gym-time). I hope to inspire others the same way my own favorite professors have inspired me, and I would like to teach at a small liberal arts college (perhaps even the one I graduated from) some day. In general, I'm looking for someone who is very intelligent and motivated, someone who values good conversation and emotional intimacy. It's very important to me that my partner can stimulate and enrich me intellectually. I hope, however, that I don't come across as too bookish here - I also want to find someone with a good sense of humor and "down-to-earth" personality, a girl who can take a break from heavy intellectual conversations to relax and just have a good, laid-back time (but bonus points if names like Merleau-Ponty and Derrida excite you), and I'm definitely looking for a committed relationship. Philosophy affords me a great deal of fulfillment, but there will always be something missing in my life as long as I don't have someone to share it with (and if it bothers you that I ended that last sentence with a preposition, we might be soul mates)
