About Me
short version: Prefer Letterman to Leno, Newshour to the networks, Indies as opposed to chains... My musical tastes are all over the place, para exemplo: Lucinda Williams,A. Abdelli, E. Costello, Boubacar Traore, Richard Thompson, CGT, Buddy Miller, Los Lobos, Plant & Krause, to name only a few, very little that I absolutely won't listen to. I play guitar and while no virtuoso, can carry a tune with panache. Films seen & appreciated lately - the Hurt Locker, In the Loop, Up, District 9, Adam, Sin Nombre, Flame & Citron; managed an indy video store years ago, so perhaps a bit of a film snob, just hate to waste my time with much of the mundane crap out there... I can cook and do it pretty well, some experience baking too, so if that is something you enjoy sharing, I'm amenable. If you'd enjoy being a guest at my dinner table, that works too, and you needn't wash dishes, 'less you insist. I imbibe, yes, and appreciate good beers and wines, not averse to a****ail now and again, not a dipsomaniac
longer version Not expecting to discover the woman of my dreams here knowing what a longshot that is regardless of how one goes about in the world & meeting people. I'd prefer to meet someone who, like myself, is not a follower or proponent of traditional christian dogma, as eventually that may likely work negatively against the possibilities of long term happiness and satisfaction, depending on how much proselytizing one is given to indulging in. I'd also appreciate meeting someone possessing wide and varied tastes in music, film, literature & the arts in general, altho will happily declare that I remain untutored in dance, opera, some of the classical composers. TV? yeah, I watch and will include Food network, PBS newshour, POV, MSNBC (incl Maddox & Olbermann) Mad Men, True (a guilty pleasure, to be sure) Blood (alongside the Wire, Deadwood, Six feet Under from great HBO seasons of yore) amongst some of the things I'll spend time watching. My sense of humour tends toward the dry, acerbic and occasionally sarcastic, but not mean spirited (unless we are discussing republicans) and definitely consider having one - a sense of humour - as essential. I've an appreciation of good wines & beers, not averse to the occasional ****tail (NOTE: rather ridiculous that this site is SO concerned about causing offense that one cannot use the word spelled cee oh cee kay tee A I L here without getting automatically "asterisked"). I'm intelligent and can hold up my end of a conversation (might have some difficulty discussing hydrogen fusion theory...), I enjoy playing guitar and am no Eric Clapton but ain't half bad either. Comfortable (maybe more than just comfortable) and adept in the kitchen, enjoy the wonder that is my neighborhood in Albany which provides plenty of opportunity for strolling & chatting, a pair of theatres within walking distance, restaurants and shops. Not fond of crowds and scenes where I am elbow to elbow with many strangers, but will make the effort on occasion, just not a fave way to spend time. I like dogs more than cats and presently live without pet-pal alongside. Can handle late nights AND early mornings, like messing about in my yard, gardening, enjoying the marvelous opportunity to put a salad together from something growing right outside the back door. Absolutely and positively inclined to giving space when required in reciprocation for same courtesy, and probably best to mention that if you are a Fan (and I mean the kind of fan with gear and t-shirts and the like squirreled away in your closet) of the niners raiders A's Giants, well, maybe best you share that interest with others similiarly inclined, and it isn't that I've no appreciation of the beauty of athletic endeavor, am simply not the kind of guy that is a Big Time American Sport Fan. That said, am a basketball fan (lower case f on that word, mind you) and enjoy making the trek to the Kezar pavilion and catching some pro-am action now and again, watching the cal women's team and the occasional NBA contest. Outdoorsy? sure but not an Eagle Scout nor expert backwoodsman but happy to go day-hiking about in, oh, say Tilden, Pt Reyes, Angel Island and other similiar destinations. basta, basta... if any of this might inspire some curiousity on your part, please say hello and let's begin a dialogue. New friends welcome, the blossoming of a friendship into something more intense and special's always a beautiful thing to be a part of, am open to all possibilities.
