I first came to Alaska when I was a teenager and my dad was working on the pipeline. I got a job working construction where I would live in remote locations and make enough money in the summer to go to college in the winter. Well, I learned to enjoy this life style and ended up being a never-ending part-time student. I really liked going to school and learning about many different subjects. I owned a condo in Anchorage for many years because it was easy to lock up and go live and work in another town. Over the years I ended up living in many parts of Alaska and came to know this state better than many people who were born here. I also mastered several subjects as someone who values learning and education. I enjoyed this life but it has had one really big disadvantage, I found it hard to maintain a long-term relationship. I found it easy to lose your woman after being gone for a few weeks. Well, about three years ago I decided to change my living situation and I started looking for a property to build a new house. I finally found what I was looking for in Rabbit Creek valley, which is just down the hill from Bear Valley in Anchorage. Back in the 1980s the city tried to buy up all the land connected to Rabbit Creek and turn it into parkland. I ended up selling my condo and buying a property surrounded by woods and city parkland. I have spent most of my spare time in the last three years developing this lot. I put in a driveway and house pad and then built a road to the top of the valley for a cabin with a view that is surrounded by woods. The last few weeks I have been planting grass and working on my cabin and house plans. Now I have come to a point of decision. I retired from construction and just received my first pension check. Should I build the house or keep the property as my campsite and buy another condo? What do you think? Maybe we can talk about this and many other things. In the next few weeks will be visiting my family in Charlotte N.C.
