A first date is a total chill session, usually involving some kind of beverage and dinner on a nice patio with a walk by the lake and some ice cream (or frozen yogurt if you are calorie wise...).
I think first dates depend on the person.
Im a pretty random guy always full of surprises so its no surprise that I would randomly drive to Niagara falls to go for a martini in the top of the Hilton for example.
The ideal date would be exactly what you want, based on a little get-to-know-you time. I prefer to talk over a movie and a walk on a beach with an interesting conversation. Burlington is an incredibly romantic city leaving ample room for romance during a dinner downtown with live music then off to the highest point to watch a sunset and a beach walk while skipping rocks. Then maybe onto a beach fire or a balcony sit while a guitar lingers in the background.
