About Me
PLEASE NOTE: While I do usually read messages as soon as I get them, sometimes it takes me a couple of days to reply due to the volume that I receive. Thank you for the kind messages and thank you for your understanding!
Through various circumstances, I have arrived in Halifax! I thought about why I joined this site and I have no other reason to offer other than that I seek to know like-minded people who can appreciate what I appreciate and from whom I can learn (and possibly even impart some of my experiences).
The brief summary goes like this: I played rugby, lived in Europe and have eaten a horse steak before (those barbaric Belgians!)and I should write a book about my life, according to at least three strangers. Apparently, I also have beautiful hands and a nice jaw. Heh. I've been shamelessly blogging about my life. It's controversial and non-linear and suits me just fine!
Rule #1: Anything you wouldn't ask your mother involves taking me to dinner first. I don't do hook-ups, one night stands, etc. Don't be afraid to message me, I don't bite!
For those who want to know a little more, I was an engineering student and I absolutely hated it. I love architecture so I might just go back to school for that. Who knows? I have some pretty diverse interests. I love everything from classical music and Shakespeare to classic rock and action flicks. I love history, movies, traveling and tons of other things as well. The best way to find out anything about me is to ask.
I've had the benefit of experience much, much more in life than the average 22-year-old has. I've done and seen wild, unusual and extraordinary things but haven't done many normal things. When I was 16, I told my parents I was moving to Germany. And I did. I lived both in Berlin and in Munich and returned only to attend school in Canada. My travels have brought me all over Europe, through most of Canada and the United States. For around two years I actually lived in New England and was a frequent visitor to Boston, NYC and Providence. When living in a 60+ room mansion was tough (how did I pull that one off?), I made off to a 100 square foot hotel room in New York, crammed together with a best friend. My salvation was the beach, where I would go alone at night feeling wonderfully anonymous and small on one hand and as if I was the king of the world on another. I've felt at ease in front of royalty yet shy and humble in front of a New York city nightlife queen (the wonderful friend in one of my pictures).
When trying to describe me, an ex told me, "You defy description, you're just chronically you." There's got to be someone else out there who defies description as well because there is no way I can reduce what I want to a few strings of text. Be bold, be passionate, love what you do or at least try to do what you love.
I eat pasta from plates, never from bowls. I consider texting to be a bodily function for which I will never say "excuse me" ;-) (just kidding!) When I was little I wanted to be a prince or an electrician. I love being afraid of things because it gives me an excuse not to do them but then I do them anyway. I also love being scared. More people know me than I know them. That makes me pretty damn famous (in my mind). If I die, don't make a Facebook group remembering me. Save the dramatics and come to my funeral instead. Free food!
Some things that annoy me:
"I'm straight acting" - Huh? Please, don't deprecate non-heterosexuals by making them all sound like flamers. "Masculine" is better and doesn't make you sound like a tool.
Effeminate men - If you have male genitalia behave like a man, unless you're a pre-op transgendered woman.
Drinking all the time - Sure, it's cool that you're a party animal but don't be an alcoholic. If you're a cool guy you don't have to rely on booze to have fun (I drink socially so I know it can happen). Don't be a saint but don't be stupid either.
Letting your sexuality define you - This one is tough to explain. I've known people who have come out and changed completely overnight from how they dress to what music they listen to. Like whatever you want but don't do it just because you're gay and don't fall into a stereotype.
Promiscuity - Thanks for giving homophobes ammunition and making homosexuals look like trash, man-hookers.
If this describes you, atone for your sins and get your act together.
Things that I like:
Intelligence - Even if I have no clue what you're talking about, I'm interested in those who pursue knowledge and can function at a high school level at the very least.
Conversation - The friends I enjoy the most are those with opinions and things to say. I find the most trustworthy people to be those who can hold a conversation (because they usually have enough to talk about to bother spilling secrets).
Dedication - Gym, art, school, whatever. Just care about something or many things.
Honesty - I am rarely offended by the truth. People who are dishonest to others and themselves bother me.
Pride - People who care about themselves, whether it's how they look, carry themselves or act toward others are the kind of people I'd like to be friends with.
If you can relate to the above then you're all good :)
Music: Muse, Metric, The Killers, The Knife, Pink Floyd, Amanda Lepore and much, much more. It's all very varied.
"I believe that everything happens for a reason; people change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they're right, you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together."
First Date
My ideal first date is one where another person and I can meet purely as friends and have a ridiculous amount of fun laughing, talking, hanging out and stuff like that. I picture meeting up for some casual food and then catching a movie (preferably a comedy on the first date) to break the ice and then hanging out for hours afterward until you HAVE to go home for the night. It progresses from there! The best date I went was a walk on the beach and then running into the water fully-clothed then sitting on the beach, covered in sand, and talking for hours.
