I think anyone out there reading this knows that we are in the midst of tough economic times, and I am no exception. Many of my hobbies have lately given way to matters of survival- a fact I wish to change... I'll try to describe and not bore you to tears.
I am an avid medical suspense thriller reader, with favorite authors like Tess Gerritsen and Jeff Lindsay (the "Dexter" series), I have medical background and tend to understand the technology. I also enjoy nature and portrait photography and I'm a sucker for a good time paradox film. Some years ago, I nourished some artistic ability, mostly drawings. For TV, it's "House" (I armchair co-diagnose), "Whale Wars" (nature advocate here),CSI, especially Las Vegas (forensics nut, too), some History Channel and Animal Planet. Unfortunately, at the moment, the TV is off. It was an extra... nuts.
But not all my interests are so sedentary and neither am I.
I am fascinated with cars- particularly fast sports/performance cars and absolutely love to drive (my secret desire is to race NASCAR or be a stunt driver.) I am perfectly comfortable diagnosing the car's latest weird noise and getting under the hood to investigate. When the car is being fixed, you'll find me in the garage under the car with the mechanic asking questions, not in the waiting area.
Camping is a favorite, as is backpacking; I have camped the four corners of the nation; backpacked in Alaska, finding true serenity and perspective in the time for reflection and the wilderness experience. I am an animal lover, with 3 large dogs and several cats- a number of them are my fosters rescued from abusive situations. I love all things natural, wild and free.
Having recently been separated from my profession due to layoffs and less than perfect, somewhat arthritic fingers (can't go into veins anymore), I am attempting to redirect, re-educate and re-route into radiology. Though floundering at the moment, I am trying to regard it as "temporary setback"... which would be funny if it weren't so tough.

"What makes me unique", they ask, perhaps the toughest to answer. Hmmm... how to describe without undercutting due to modesty or overstating? I write this honestly and from the heart, so to speak... I am who I am... not out to impress the majority, so here goes...
If I lived in an ancient Native American culture, I would likely be a medicine woman. I am a spiritual individual, a deep thinker, a healer- which is why I chose medicine... I actually care. Today's society, with its apathy disappoints me in its lack of humanity for others, human or otherwise. I like to think of myself as intelligent, as I am told by others; compassionate and inquisitive. At 48, I still have a healthy sense of adventure. In a relationship (which I have not had for several years- dictated by choice and lack of decent prospects), I am a listener as well as a speaker, caring, giving... a sharer and equal partner. The twinkle of an eye or a telling smile are far from lost on me... yes, the simple things do count...

Another question: 'taste in music'... ha. Hang on... I have teenagers, so the answer is VARIED... everything from Jazz to Coheed and Cambria... Classic Rock... Brule (Native American infusion) to Antigone Rising, Apocolyptica and love soundtracks like "Gone In 60 Seconds" and "Matrix" (especially for driving- "Boost Me" rocks on the highway). Yes, I do 'headbanger' as well... I also love classical Mozart and Beethoven- it all depends on my mood and what I'm doing at the time.
Summing it up, I am a complex and (I'm told) interesting individual, genuine, honest, real. I love those moments in life that are rich in fun and fulfilling.
I am a Mom. My kids mean the world to me. They are my greatest source of pride, joy and love. I still believe in a better side to the human race, even if we don't seem to show it and those great ones seem the elusive 'needle in a haystack'. I believe we can all be heros, if you catch us at the right moment.
I think 'everything in life is personal if you're a person',so normally, I don't do the whole internet dating thing... because I think it's depersonalizing. As to why I am filling this out tonight... who knows?

Connection on some sort of intellectual and spiritual level is critical for me. I would want to go somewhere quiet where conversation wasn't an effort to hear over a din of noise. Natural places like parks or the beach are very conducive to this... It's much easier to get in touch with yourself and someone else under a wide open sky, chock full of stars...
On another level, doing something fun together that allows each to laugh tends to start any friendship/relationship off on a positive note.
Physical activity as a team is a great idea. So is something that promotes a sharing of ideas...
And, of course, there's no denying that old comfort zone of a nice, warm shared cup of cappuccino with someone interesting... or a shared meal (accompanied by a good food fight~ mashed potatoes are prime stuff for this).
