About Me
Hello out there, how goes it? I hope that it goes well. These self description things are always so odd but here goes. (Read with a grain of salt I'm not terribly good at this) First off, I’m a FOODIE, yeah big foodie. I was a professional Chef for several years in college and in between some of the many jobs / careers that I have held. Among my jobs in the past have been Firefighter / Paramedic Chef Teacher Management industry I now own and operate my own business which is a property management and home improvement business. And yes I love it. I'm a well traveled individual, having been to 3 continents other than the one on which I currently reside.
I’m a very laid back person and somehow I manage not to take any bull from anyone at any time. I'm ferociously blunt. I’m generally happy, at least recently I have been. I choose not to take life too seriously after all it’s not permanent. And I have a high level of snark and sarcasm. I have a strong background in education although I generally don’t use it in the manner in which it was intended. I'm an animal person; I have 2 cats and occasionally foster dogs and/or cats that need a respite from cages or from shelters that would otherwise kill them off. I’m not an environmentalist but I'm environmentally aware and run a relatively eco-conscious life as well as a green business.
Things I generally like, or am good at: FOOD in particular sushi, Chinese, Italian, Indian, French, spicy, savory, sweet. I particularly like seafood and red meat, and bacon of course Some other things I really like: oysters, olives, mushrooms, cheese (of all kinds), chocolate, cashews, pistachios… I have to stop here or the list will go on and on. Although I don’t usually eat too many deserts I do love them on occasion, I can make a mean crème Brule or crème Carmel but it’s a rarity. Cooking Construction and fixing things Having a good time Making smart assed comments at inappropriate times Making generally inappropriate jokes at everyone’s expense
Books I like: Art of war, Tao Te Ching, Kitchen Confidential, Al Franken, Noam Chomsky, Gore Vidal, Thomas Friedman, The Sex Bible, mostly non fiction, philosophy, DIY, history, I read a few blogs and even add to a food blog from time to time.
Music: in no particular order Classic rock, Techno, classical, Punk, Dave Mathews, Bob Marley, Oren Lavie, Pink Floyd, RHCP, Nirvana, Daft Punk, Violent Femmes, David Bowie, Gypsy Kings, Tom Petty, Simon and Garfunkel, Nina Simone, Infected Mushroom, Blind Melon, Red Hot Chili Peppers, No doubt .. Yes I know it’s completely random...
Movies: Snatch, Usual Suspects, Band of Brothers, Indiana Jones, V for Vendetta, Boondock Saints, Firefly (Serenity), Star Wars (the originals nty to this new nonsense) James bond, Young Frankenstein, Monty Python, Stranger than Fiction, Nightmare Before Christmas, Grosse Point Blank, Iron Man, zombie movies... SCI FI ...Tim Burton... Luc Besson.. The stranger the better as far as I'm concerned. TV: True blood; Rescue me, Life, Daily show
ART: Classic roman and Greek sculpture and architecture, Degas, Kandinsky, Miro, Durer, Picasso, Boulanger, Lautrec, Escher, Monet, Da Vinci, guess there is a pattern somewhere in there. Although I will add to this list soon
Things I don't generally like: Religion (or the fundamental forms of it ) cigarette smokers Perfume and makeup (I think a little is ok otherwise its cheating) staunch Republicans Morbidly Obese people.. Nothing personal but it’s the reason I'm no longer a firefighter (feel free to ask) DRAMA and interpersonal games, i.e. Bullshit I dont like people that cant tell you the truth to your face
I stated that I was looking for friends, which I am for the most part. I am interested in dating and relationships as well but prefer to start on level ground and work my way to that. Im not in any rush
First Date
Hmm Well real dates or online meet-ups? I have a funny perspective on dating especially online... I consider this all socialization rather than dating. Especially the first time I meet with someone I would do something lighter like coffee or happy hour.. Something simple where you have the opportunity to talk and see how the chemistry works. I'm a big believer in chemistry, it's either there or its not. No faking it.
but if im interested in someone.. Maybe do a dinner out but that seems so generic. maybe something active like kayaking or going to dc to check out the museams, and if that went well i would offer to cook dinner for the two of us. that may be unusual for a first date.. but like I said I have a funny perspective on dating.. I prefer to know someone before I really do a "date" in the traditional sense.. I'm not in a rush to run off into the sunset. At least not yet.
