Hello, I’m fifty-five years old and never married……I imagine that will raise some eyebrows. It was never the game plan, just a result of some early commitment issues and an itinerant lifestyle. It took a long time for me to finally realize that life is best shared with a partner. I am loyal to family and friends and I do take commitments seriously.
I am a bit shy in a group, but can take center stage when necessary. I love good conversation. I have always been a reader, mostly non-fiction nowadays, and I like to discuss books and ideas. Also love a good movie. My tastes run to the left of mainstream, but nothing too radical. I’m still a sucker for ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ at Xmas time. I couldn’t live without National Public Radio, and I have a low tolerance for commercial radio and TV.
I’m only a passable cook with a limited repertoire, but I do appreciate good food and I’m an able cook’s helper and dishwasher. I enjoy silent sports (XC skiing, biking, hiking, and paddling) and gardening. My work as a natural resource professional still motivates me, and I’m still enjoying it here in the U.P. after five years. After years of moving and traveling for work, I’ve been content to stay close to home, but the urge to travel is returning, and I would like to have a companion for trips out of the U.S. (Canada and Mexico do not count!).
I eat a balanced diet, nothing too radical, some fish, and very little red meat. A nice evening for me is a good meal, a walk, and a movie or maybe a game or two of backgammon. My tastes in music run the gamut (almost) and I do like to go to the Marquette symphony once or twice a year.

First date....hmmm. First, I wouldn't call it a date. I'd say let's start with a long walk,or other activity we both enjoy, with lots of time for conversation, but also the opportunity to enjoy the scenery and fresh air. Then lunch or dinner, maybe a picnic, but casual at least. The main thing is for us to get to know one another in a relaxed setting, without a lot of distractions. That's about it...an opportunity for communication, both verbal and non-verbal. The chemistry is the key, always interesting, and almost always a surprise to me!
