The previous edition of this profile sounded really pretentious, which is not me at all! So, it's a re-edit (if you like pretentious, then you should have written me earlier!). And, oh, yes, since a lot of women seem top want a "kind, good-hearted man" let me make it clear - I am a kind, good-hearted man (now my mailbox will overflow!) but I don't like motorcycles (which will drop a few, oh well).

It's true that I'm a bookish sort - I live in a library, I have an MA in History, I have written and published academic articles. So I like ideas and to talk about them. But I am really a generalist - just about everything interests me somewhat - people in particular are often so weird and interesting, art of all sorts (my tastes run toward the edgy in visual art; Francis Bacon, Jasper Johns, Man Ray, although I do really like Emily Carr and John Varley, too - to the art film end of things, although I am not at all interested in violent films or horror; Juno, Being John Malcovitch, Little Miss Sunshine, Crash (both versions), Babel, that's a general area), musically in the world music, jazz, and roots music areas, although I have a soft spot for singer-songwriters like Leonard Cohen, Kate and Anne McGarrigle, Feist and Bob Dylan. I love beautiful things and grace and gentleness.

But I also own a massage table and I know how to use it! (And not just for seduction purposes - if your back aches, hop on up and I'll fix it.)

My friends would probably say (on the positive side) that I am intelligent, generous, spiritual, very honest, community minded and maybe mention my cooking and wine-making. On the negative, I enjoy an argument about ideas, I am not tolerant of fools or dishonesty, and I'm sometimes tactless.

I like and respect women, as well as finding them physically attractive. I like the way women smell, and the way that they move. I like femininity - that essential difference in the ways that women and men see the world. I don't like women pretending, or actually, being incompetent - women are just as smart, just as capable, and just as complex as men. I'm interested in dating women who are my equals, with their own opinions and ways of doing things. It's more interesting.

I can't believe I forgot to put on my profile - I'm a Wiccan Priest. I have been involved in this religion for 20 odd years. Which doesn't mean I'm going to try to convert you (we don't work that way) but you'd need to be tolerant of a polytheistic, Goddess and Nature focused spiritual path.

And yes, although I'd like to get laid, I'm interested in love and a long-term relationship. Life is more satisfying when it is shared. It's tough when I think that I have friends, some close and dear, but there's nobody who loves me. It's a hole in my life.

The "first meeting" should probably be your standard coffee in some public place kind of deal. I like to eat and so going out for a meal of some sort would be up there on my list for the first real date. Walking around the city (NOT doing the Grouse Grind!), sitting somewhere and talking, going to a movie. A friend of mine suggested that I be sure to ask "What is the meaning of life?" on the first date (I wonder how many second dates he has?) but hey, I'm up for the challenge of a good philosophcal conversation if that turns your crank.
